Hello,

I have been hijacked with the about:blank spy.
I run HijackThis and send my logfile. Can someone help me find out what needs to be deleted and what does not?
Do I still have to do some other things in order to remove it?

Thank you very much.Logfile of HijackThis v1.98.2

Let's see if you have a hidden hijacker. Do this for me.

Click here to download DllCompare. Start the Program with and click the Run Locate.com - be sure the \Windows\System32 directory is in the box and wait until the the blue text says it has 'completed the scan'.

Click the Compare button to start the next process. The results appear in two panes - files in the upper pane have been verified to 'exist', files in the lower pane were 'not able to be accessed'. Very few files should be listed in the lower pane when the Compare scan is complete. Click on each of the listed entries in the lower pane to select them. Right-click on the file and use the option Rescan. This will cause Windows Find to see if the file does exist, and then if so it will be removed from the list to reduce the number of identified files.

Click the Make a Log of what was found button and post the log here in this thread and wait for further instructions.

Hello,

I appreciate your help very much. I downloaded DlCompare, clicked Run Locate.com, and waited until the blue text said 'completed the scan'. However, after clicking the Compare button, the program stops and does not react anymore, even not after waiting a couple of hours.

Sincerely,

Click here to download FindnFix.exe (2K/XP only!) by freeatlast. Double-click on the FINDnFIX.exe and it will install a folder called FINDnFIX on your system. Go to that folder and double-click on !LOG!.bat. The program takes a few minutes to collect the necessary information. When done post the contents of Log.txt in this thread.

OK good. Click here to download CWShredder by Merijn Bellekom and run it, hit 'fix' as opposed to 'scan only'. Reboot when done.

Click here to download Spybot Search & Destroy - install, update, scan and fix all RED items it finds. Reboot when done.

Click here to download Ad-Aware SE and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Then click the gear wheel at the top and make sure these options are checked green:

General>: "Automatically save log-file" and "Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal".

Scanning>: "Scan within archives", "Scan active processes", "Scan registry", "Deep-scan registry", "Scan my IE Favorites for banned URLs" and "Scan my Hosts file".

Tweaks> Scanning Engine>: "Unload recognized processes during scanning", "Ignore spanned files when scanning cab archives" and "Scan registry for all users instead of current user only".

Tweaks> Cleaning Engine>: "Automatically try to unload modules before deletion", "During removal, unload Explorer and IE if necessary", "Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot" and "Delete quanatined objects after restoring".

Click "Proceed" to save your settings, then click "Start", select "Perform Full System scan" and "Next" to start the scan. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".

Reboot when done. Rescan with HJT and post a new log here so that any remnants can be removed manually.
CWShredder showed a clean system, no files infected.
Spybot: DSO Exploit
and Ad-aware showed 1 new critical object: [removed]

Here is the result of the rescan with HJT.
sincerely

Create a new folder called C:\HijackThis, move the HijackThis.exe file into the new folder and run it from there. This is necessary to ensure you have backups should anything go wrong.

Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

Reboot when done.

Click here, for instructions on how to enable hidden files and folders to be visible. After enabling, find, zip and send this file:

to this e-mail address including a link to this thread in the body of the email.

Rescan with HJT and post a new log here for a final check over.
Dear DAemon, After unchecking the Hide protected operating system files (recomended) option , my computer gives a warning that deleting or editing these files can make the computer inoperable. What do I have to do? Continue anaway, or not? Thanks.
