Quick questions….

To run IE6 on this computer and the DSL, I had to disable the firewall. Is it safe to surf without the firewall enabled? I'm using McAfee.

How can I prevent getting hijacked again?

Thanks for your help….
Hello tnj13as

Please go to add and remove programs and remove,

Reboot afterwards in SAFE MODE. If you don't know how click here
Delete the following files and folder listed

C:\Program Files\WildTangent<<

Some of these files and folders might have the hidden atribute
How to show hidden files and folders in Windows Instructions here

Then Download System Security Suite. Extract it from the zip file into a folder.

Under "items to clear" click all. Then click "clear selected items"

Reboot and Rescan with HJT and post a new log here.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Thanks for the help Little Eagle, I did what you told me to do, but I'm still having a problem.

The homepage is definitely hijacked, no matter how I try to delete it, it comes back. If I can get onto the internet, I can only go to places in my "favorites". If I type in a URL, it takes me to this "here to find, mega store" site.

My computer is screwed… When I try to remove the registry items you told me to, they come right back… Obviously, there is something, somewhere that is putting it back… This sucks!

Here is the latest log… Any help anyone can give me is appreciated

Thanks,
TNJ

Download then unzip and run CWShredder to clean up clicking "FIX" to have it remove all it finds.

CWShredder available from these places :-

http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads.php
Or this as a full download without any unzipping required
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/CWShredder.exe

We have found that some of the CWS infections can be removed better from safe mode, rather than normal mode.
To get to safe mode use the F8 key while booting the machine. Detailed instructions from here :-

Then post another log.
Also Please download this tool to fix the start.chm hijack.

http://tools.zerosrealm.com/startchmfix.exe

Download it to preferably the Desktop . Run it and it will extract the folder to the desktop.

Open the folder after extracted.

Please make sure all Internet Explorers are closed.

Double click the fix.bat

Only run it once or you will lose the backups although they shouldn't be needed.

Notepad will open at the end with a message and the bad file listing at the end. Please post that bad file listing line here. The Tool is designed so that if it is unable to remove the file, it will tell the user to reboot and will remove it on Reboot.

If no files show in the bad file listing then do a Reboot and do a search for any of these highlighted files and DELETE them:

C:\Windows\System32\ C_10230.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\System32\CRTV2_32.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\CRTV2_32.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\System32\CRT32_V2.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\CRT32_V2.DLL

Reboot and rescan with HijackThis and post a new log file.

Delete the files from:

C:\WINDOWS\Temp\
C:\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

Don't forget to delete all Temporary Internet files and offline content also.
Thanks for all your help, Little Eagle.

I tried everything you told me to do, but this hijack is still going on. The home page keeps wanting to get changed. the "here to find" thing is the problem. I remove the thing with hijack this, but it keeps coming back. I can at least stop it from sending me to the megaseach site and go to a site of my choice (with some difficulty), but it's still in there somewhere.
