My wife loves to play games on yahoo and other sites, it appears that she has been seriously infected by the web. Can anyone help. Here is the lastet HJT log.
We have tried some of the blockers and so on… doesn't look like they helped much. I keep telling her not to click ok to the popups!

Well… She has contracted one of the "more difficult" infections to remove. :(

Click here to download FindnFix.exe (2K/XP only!) by freeatlast. Double-click on the FINDnFIX.exe and it will install a folder called FINDnFIX on your system. Go to that folder and double-click on !LOG!.bat. The program takes a few minutes to collect the necessary information. When done post the contents of Log.txt in this thread. :)

You did just right!

In the keys1 folder, double click on FIX.bat. You will get an alert of about 15 seconds before reboot - allow it to reboot. On restart, open Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\System32 folder, find the D3DI.DLL file (it should be visible now). Highlight the file and using top menu, click Edit>Move to folder…

Select C:\Findnfix\junkxxx as destination. Move the file.

Open the FINDnFIX folder again and double-click on RESTORE.bat. When it is finished, in FINDnFIX folder, there will be a file called Log2.txt - post it's contents in your next reply. :)
Hoping I did this right as well. We did get a number of popup's when trying to start internet explore, here's log 2 txt.

Nearly there!

Open the FINDnFIX folder again and open the Files2 folder. Double-click on the ZIPZAP.bat. It will quickly clean the rest and will make a copy of the bad file(s) in the same folder (junkxxx.zip) and open your email client with instructions. Simply drag and drop the junkxxx.zip file from the folder into the mail message and submit to the specified addresses.

Please be sure to include a link to this thread in the body of your email.

This is the link to your thread:

http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?showtopic=17529

Reboot when done, then delete the entire FINDnFIX folder. Then download CWShredder (from here) CLOSE ALL BROWSER WINDOWS, and run it, hit 'fix' as opposed to 'scan only'. If you already have CWShredder, click 'Check for update' and make sure you are running the latest version. Reboot when done. Rescan with Hijack This! and copy/paste a new log in your next reply. :)
CWShredder report "CLEAN". Here is the latest log file. Thankyou very much.
Assuming that all is well, can you suggest some software that will prevent some of these problems from happening again? As you can see she is not really a "puter"
person.

Fix this item:

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

If you did not intentionally put this restriction in place.

Then click "Fix checked".

Reboot, and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

OPTIONAL FIX

Go to:

Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, and remove:

"Viewpoint Manager" - It is considered "spyware.

Reboot after the uninstall to complete the process.

I'm going to give my "farewell speech" now.

I think this infection was cause by a malicious web site dropping this infection because of incorrect browser settings. I would do the "browser check" and fix the settings it finds "faulty".

The other fixes I recommend as well.

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:

http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Download IE-Spyad here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

http://browsercheck.qualys.com/index.php

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.
(Personally, I'm NOT recommending SP2 for XP at this time)

Thankyou ! Here is the latest log file. We will review your suggested fixes as well!
