I notice that you have posted essentially the same logfile in four different threads. Please stay with this thread going forward, and do not use the others. It helps us alot for folks to stay with a single thread per problem. And, it will help you to recieve a consistant fix, without different parts of it, or of your relpies, ending up in the wrong threads. I am only going to track this thread. Thanks daveai
ShadowTraffic – You have a CoolWebSearch variant that will take several posts to completely remove. We'll use a method engineered by mmxx66 that fixes in three parts.

In part one, we gather some information from you system.

Please download and install the program Registry Lite from here:

http://www.resplendence.com/reglite

Once it is installed, please double click on the icon that should now be on your desktop. If an icon is not there, then check under programs portion of the Start Menu.

Once it is opened, copy and paste the below line, into the address field of Registrar Lite.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs

And press enter. You will now be presented with new information in the bottom right and left sections and on the right section, the name AppInit_DLLs should be highlighted. Double-click on the AppInit_DLLs entry and copy and paste the text found in the value field in your next reply to this post.

I'll follow that reply up with part two of the fix.

Thanks
daveai
Hi. Sorry about the xtra posts. This is what I copied from the value field after following your instructions. Hope this helps. Thanks, Jenny C:\WINDOWS\System32\hlpnod.dll
Thanks for the response, Jenny. Now we'll execute part two of the fix engineered by mmxx66.

Please follow these steps:

Step 1:
In Windows Explorer, go to "Tools > Folder Options > View"

Scroll to the bottom of the list to find the box labeled:
'Use Simple File Sharing(Recommended)'
Remove the check from that box and press ok.

If you are using XP home you won´t see this option in the list, in this case skip this step.

Step 2:

Download CWShredder.exe

Save that file somewhere as we will use it later. Do not run it until told to do so.

Step 3:

Download this file and then immediately sign off the
internet and stay off until all steps are finished.

The file to download is here:

http://computercops.biz/modules.php?name=F…ownload&id=1183

Extract the batch file (hiving.bat) and run it. If you have script blocking enabled you will get a warning. Please allow this to run. The script is just producing a message box.

After a reboot the super hidden nasty file will no longer be loaded and will be visible. This will end the constant reinstall of about:Blank.

Step 4:

Restart the Computer.

Find this file:
c:\windows\system32\hlpnod.dll

Use the security tab on hlpnod.dll and take ownership.
Change the 'everyone special' to
'you> with Admin rights-> FULL control
Then try to delete it, if that fails try to rename
it first to different name+ext.

Example:
hlpnod.dll>bleh.txt
bleh.txt > badfile.111

If you are using XP home you won´t see the security tab, just right click the file, go to properties and unmark read only

Now delete the original file.

Step 5:

Extract and Run CWShredder immediately.
Press the fix button to clean.

Restart and run hijackThis again.
Post your new log here in your next reply, and I'll follow up with part three of the fix..

Thanks
daveai
Hi, I followed all instructions and ran HiJackThis again. Unfortunately, I must have accidentally deleted all the files that were listed; so I don't have any files to post. I was able to delete hlpnod.dll using hiving.bat I ran CWShredder, and found no files to fix. I'm really sorry. Is it still possible to work through part 3? Thanks so much, Jenny
Sure…send me a HijackThis log. The worst that happens is we have torepeat a step or two. I you deleted the 'hlpnod.dll' file then you are doing great :) daveai
Hi, Here's the result of CWShredder: Done! Removed from your system: - CWS.Jksearch Results for HiJackThis are: "No suspicious items found" Hope all this helps. Thanks, Jenny
You forgot to send the HijackThis log, and there is still some work to do here. Thanks for the CWShredder log. I'll stand by to see the HJT information. daveai
Thanks Jenny. I'm going to check this out with some of the other fixers here. In the meantime, please rename HijackThis.exe to Anyoldname.exe and try to run that. The malware infection may be fighting us here. You should hear back from me shortly. daveai
Jenny

Here is another suggestion to get around the HijackThis problem.

Try re-installing hijackthis into a different directory & run it again.

My belief is that the "No suspicious items found" message you are seeing is not from HijackThis. This suggests that the infection is not dead, and is trying to protect itself.

We will need to see a new logfile to make any further progress with your CWS infection.

Please let me know how you are progressing.

Thanks
daveai
