I have run AdAware and SpyBot and still have been unable to remove this spyware, so here is my HijackThis logfile. Hopefully someone can tell me what to do with it:

ok Next:Make sure your PC is configured to show hidden files

Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Reboot your PC into SAFE MODE (tap F5 fey at startup, chose safe mode)

also still in safe mode using explorer(right click on start>explore) drill down to these >>> you want to delete whats >inside< the folder, not the folder itself<<

hello HT1138, looking much better, one more to go: C:\Program Files\Save\Save.exe if it dosnt appear in the add/remove programs list then just delete the entire Save folder in C:\Program Files\Save. i suggest the free version of zone alarm.. …. shelf life

All of the spyware seems to be removed. However, I still have a lingering problem that I first noticed when all of that spyware first infected my computer. In the lower right hand corner of Internet Explorer, it says Trusted sites and has a green circle with a check mark in it rather than Internet logo that is typically there. Do you know of any way to fix this?

hello HT1138, i mainly use firefox on a w2k os, one thing i can think of is to check if you have any sites in your trusted zone. tools>internet options>security>trusted sites> sites button, anything in there? does it happen for all web pages? just to check post a new HJT log…….shelf life

hello HT1138, your latest log looks good. the trusted site icon could be left over from some of the malware. lets start simple first, although i will be suprised if it fixes it. under tools>internet options>Security>select default level, then under privacy tab> select the default level, then apply then ok. i will also post to see if anyone has a fix for this. if you have made any custom settings under these tabs, setting everything back to default could have changed them. shelf life

I was thinking that the Trusted sites icon is a leftover from the malware as well. I set both of those settings back to their default levels and the icon is still there like you thought it would be. Thanks again for all of your help.

hello HT1138,

lets try this again, same procedure:

Make sure your PC is configured to show hidden files

Double click my computers & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Reboot your PC into SAFE MODE(tapF5 key at startup, chose safe mode)
