I'm not sure is this is how I am supposed to do this, not a techie at all, just need help. I think I have some sort of virus. From what I have read it may be C:\WINDOWS\goidr.exe, but I don't know. I know I can post my hijack this log and someone will help me. If this is the wrong place, please let me know.
Thanks!

steegm5 #1 – Thanks for sending you HijackThis log.

Go ahead and print these instructions, or save them to your desktop, to help keep track of the steps.

To start, allow yourself to view "Hidden files". Open Windows Explorer and go to "Tools" => "Folder Options" => "View" then click on the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" option, and un-check "Hide extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected operating system files" options. Then click the "Apply To All Folders" button.

Next, move your "HijackThis.exe" out of temp files and into a newly created folder (such as "C:\HJT") to ensure that backup files are reliably saved. We're eventually going to clean out the tempfiles as part of the fix. The easiest way to do this may be to download a new copy of HijackThis (version 1.98.2), and unzip it into the newly created folder (such as "C:\HJT').

Now we'll proceed to the fix:

1 – Download the newest version of CWShredder by Merijn Bellekom (1.59.1). Run it, hit 'fix' as opposed to 'scan only'.

2 – Reboot into Safe Mode (How do I boot into "Safe" mode?).

3 – Run HijackThis, and press Scan, and put a check against the following entries, if they still show up. Make sure all browsers and program windows are closed except for HijackThis.

If you set these yourself, then leave them alone, otherwise, fix them:

O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.workathomeagent.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.workathomeagent.net

Once you have selected all the items for HJT to fix, make sure all browsers and program windows are closed except for HijackThis, and click fix checked.

4 – While still in safe mode, use Windows Explorer to delete the following lists of program files and folders, if they still exist.

C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe <– this file
C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE <– this file
C:\WINDOWS\fash.exe <– this file
C:\WINDOWS\aqadcup.exe <– this file
C:\WINDOWS\Oxadw.exe <– this file
C:\WINDOWS\jawa32.exe <– this file
C:\WINDOWS\goidr.exe <– this file

C:\WINDOWS\System32\hueeqq.exe <– this file

C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\ <– this folder

Please let me know about any problems with the file/folder deletes.

5 – Next, use "Start > Run" and type in "%temp%" (without the quotes). Delete the entire contents of that "temp" folder (use "Edit > Select All", press "Delete", click "Yes").

Then, Empty your Temporary Internet Cache completely. Close all instances of Outlook and and Internet Explorer, then use "Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab" and click the "Delete File" button. When prompted place a check in: "Delete all offline content", then click OK.

Then, use Windows Explorer to clean out ALL the other temp folders on your system (navigate to the folder, use "Edit > Select All", press "Delete", click "Yes"):

* C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temp\
* C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
* C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temp\
* Empty your "Recycle Bin".

Please let me know about any problems with the temp file deletes.

6 – Now, reboot normally, and run the online trojan scan at: http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/ and delete any problem it finds.

If any files are not cleaned, please let me know what they are.

7 – Then reboot normally, and let's run a battery of general scans to give your system a "good scrubbing". Please let me know if anything can not be cleaned by these utilities.

Whew :) Now let's take another look at your system.

Please run HijackThis to create a new logfile. Repost it here, and if you had any problems with the steps outlined above, please let us know what they were. Your response and the new logfile will determine the next steps for this fix.

Thanks
daveai
I worked with daveai last night on viruses in my system. Went in to safe mode and got rid of a bunch of files and ran Panda scan. Panda scan found 1 virus that it couldn't disinfect: C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-1762039973-518493327-2 Could not run spybot S&D. Said the application faild to start because msjava.dll was not found and because wdengine.dll was not found. Tried to rund adaware SE and got a fatal exception. Panda scan ran all night and found the above virus that it couldn't disinfect. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Ok, I think this is where I talk about this. I ran the scans suggested that I was able to. In panda scan it said it couldn't disinfect C:\Recycler\S-1-5-21-1762039973-518493327-2. I could not run spybot. It said that this application failed to start because msjava.dll was not found and wdengine.dll was not found. I could not run adaware SE because it said there was a fatal exception. I was able to take care of most things. I could not find the C:\Documents and Settings\……temp files. I don't know if I'm looking in the wrong place or what. There were several items found in trojan scan and I was able to delete all of those. Panda disinfected 11 of 12 problems. But not the one listed above. THanks!
Here's the new log file.

Thanks again.
Thanks steegm5 – You should be able to take care of that "C:\Recycler\S-1-5-21-1762039973-518493327-2" by clearing out your "Recycle Bin.

I'll be away from the keyboard for several hours, and will analyze the latest logfile later today. You'll be first in line when I get back. A quick scan tells me you did a great job of getting rid of a lot of stuff :)

I'll also look into the Spybot issue.

In the meantime, please allow me to suggest some prevention steps to keep your computer clean and secure going forward. You may have already taken a few of the steps, but it never hurts to take a quick look :)

1 – Use an AntiVirus Software, and be sure you update it at least once a week. There are several very good free programs available. Grinler offers an outstanding overview at Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

2 – To reduce re-infection potential for malware in the future, I strongly recommend installing three free programs: SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, and IE/Spyad.

3 – Use AdAware SE and Spybot S&D; to regularly to scan your system.

4 – It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and XP are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.

5 – Consider using a Firewall. Just by using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. Check out what Lawrence Abrams has to say at Understanding and Using Firewalls

An excellent overview is: So how did I get infected in the first place?. Be sure to visit the browser test link at the end of the article to really see how secure your system is!!

Thanks
daveai
steegm5 – Thanks for sending you HijackThis log. Based on this logfile, no malware is found.

For your Spybot problem, the first thing I'd do is download a freshcopy from this link. Then reinstall and try to run it again.

Meanwhile, here's what I found by googling "msjava.dll + wdengine.dll + spybot"

Yields: This link

Which contains:

msjava.dll
Above file is a part of Microsoft Java Vitual Machine, which won't be developed anymore, and for security reasons should be removed from your computer. You can download free removal tool from HERE.
Also, go Start>Run, type in: MSCONFIG, go to "Startup" tab, and see, if there is any referrence to Microsoft Java Vitual Machine. If there is, uncheck that line.
Then, click on "Java" link at the bottom of my response, and download Sun Java.

wdengine.dll
Above file is most likely a part of Wild Tangent spyware.

So, the "punchline" on msjave.dll seems to be to delete the Microsoft java and install the Sun java, which is more standard (and secure). Read More here.

And, interesting that WildTangent is mentioned, since:

There is one optional item, called WildTangent. While technically not malware, it is thought by many experts to bring malware with it. I'm recommending you delete it now, and have included the steps below, should you chose to do so.

1 – Use Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs to remove any of the following malware that it finds:

Wild Tangent

2 – Run HijackThis, and press Scan, and put a check against the following entries, if they still show up. Make sure all browsers and program windows are closed except for HijackThis.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] RUNDLL32.exe "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll",cdaEngineMain

Once you have selected all the items for HJT to fix, make sure all browsers and program windows are closed except for HijackThis, and click fix checked.

3 – Then, use Windows Explorer to delete the following lists of program files and folders, if they still exist.

C:\Program Files\WildTangent\ <– this folder

4 – Next, clean out all the temporary files and cookies on your system. Go to Start > Run and enter: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Check these three boxes and then press ok to remove: Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, Recycle Bin.

If you wish to send another HJT log after the above procedure, I'd be happy to take a look at it.

Thanks
daveai
