Reboot in "safe" mode. Use the link in my signature to tell you how if necessary.

Find and delete:

c:\program files\windowssa <— FOLDER

C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden". Use the link in my signature to explain how to show "hidden" files if necessary.

Reboot in normal mode and post a new log file. :)
heres the new log….this stuff is wayyyy over my head…..thank you so much for your help

Great work!!!

The log is clean now.

If you run your resident virus scan now, and it says your still infected, and the file name has "_restore" in it, please do this:

1. Go here: System Restore , to learn how to turn system restore ON/OFF.

2. Turn system restore OFF.

3. Run your virus scan. Then reboot.

4. Turn system restore ON. Then reboot.

5. Run your virus scan again. You should come up clean.

If you have questions or problems, post back.

M68 :)

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:

http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Download IE-Spyad here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

http://browsercheck.qualys.com/index.php

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.
(Personally, I'm NOT recommending SP2 for XP until they get the bugs out)

Hi wheeln34m, I need first to point out that you are running two antivirus programs at the same time:
C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG6\avgserv.exe and C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe
This is not a good policy and they can conflict with each other causing false readings, etc. I do strongly suggest that you disable one if you wish to keep them both.
Both are good programs, but you are probably paying for the Norton.

Let's see if we can fix these problems for you. First follow the directions in this link to enable hidden files:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen…x&osv=&osv_lvl=

Open Task Manager, Right click on the Taskbar and choose "Task Manager", or depress the Ctrl, Alt & Delete keys at the same time.
Choose Processes tab, locate and end process on this item only:
C:\Program Files\WindowsSA\omniscient.exe

Then open hijackThis, choose SCAN, then put a check in the box in front of each of these line items and click on "Fix Checked"

Follow the excellant instructions created for us by Texruss and ChrisRLG to configure these two programs. http://www.cjwdavis.co.uk/s-a.html
These are our big guns that will locate and remove stuff we can't see, so print the instructions and follow them carefully. You will only need to do this once as these settings will be used each time you run the programs.

After this is complete click on Start then Run. In the Run Command line, type "cleanmgr" with no quotes, allow the program to run and delete anything windows locates for you. Then empty the recycle bin, reboot the computer and post a new HijackThis log for us to view keeping it in this same thread.
