Ie And Aim No Longer Work

One of my computers can no longer access the Internet. My daughter said something was installing, then the computer rebooted. IE and AIM have not worked since. IE would spin repeatedly trying to access some weird page. AIM just never connects. I have two other computers that can access the Internet fine. I ran Adaware and Spybot and did all the clean up activities. Both run with clean scans now. I also ran Norton Antivirus which reports no viruses. I had some parental controls software on the computer which I took off. I think the following programs might have been installed yesterday:
TV Media
AdDestroyer
OfferApp

I found instructions for uninstalling TV Media and AdDestroyer, but can't find anything for OfferApp.

Here is the HijackThis log:

Thanks for any help you can give.
When HijackThis is on your Desktop it will save the backups as Icons and can be confused with your other programs. It is best to have it in it's own folder.

1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

3. Close ALL windows except HJT

4. SCAN with HJT

5. POST the new log in this thread using 'Add Reply'

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO YOUR COMPUTER'S HEALTH

When you have done that, delete the copy of hijackthis that you have on your desktop.

And there is a newer of HijackThis1.98.2 Download it here
Please scan with this version.
Please do all the steps in the order they are listed

Uninstall Virtumundo from control panel >> add remove program if listed there

Reboot

Download LSPfix here: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Start the program and then check the I know what I'm doing box.

Move all instances of lspak.dll (and nothing else), to the Remove pane.
Click the Finish Button and reboot.

Find and delete the file c:\windows\system\lspak.dll

After that Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\
C:\Temp\
Also delete your Temporary Internet Files, be sure to also select delete all offline content.

or Download System Security Suite. Extract it from the zip file into a folder.
http://www.igorshpak.net/software/3ssetup104.zip
Under "items to clear" click all. Then click "clear selected items"

If possible try to download LSP fix and put the file on a floppy or cd.

If the PC that you are having trouble with doesn't have internet asscess.
I ran the new HiJack This and the log is below.

I started on the lspfix items, but I stopped at the delete lspak.dll. I did not find the file in c:\windows\system, but I did find it in c:\windows\system32. Should I delete that one?

Running the lspfix program has fixed connectivity. I can now post from the problem computer. Thanks much for you help! :P

Hi Little Eagle,

Things are definitely looking up. I can connect to the internet with IE and AIM. I only have a few small things now.
- When IE starts up, it goes to my home page, but another window opens quickly that appears to go to something like xlime.offeroptions.com. It seems to only come up the first time I get on IE. The window goes away before I have time to look at it.
- When I log on my daughter's ID, a window opens to the C:\Documents folder. This used to happen on my ID too, but doesn't anymore.
- When I log off my daughter's ID, I get a message that Explorer.exe is ending followed by a message that Explorer.exe isn't responding.
- I have a number of short cuts on the desktop to various web sites. I'm not sure how they got there, but they can be deleted.

None of the above seem to cause any real problems and I can really live with them if necessary. Your help has has certainly been invaluable!

Here is the new log.

- When I log on my daughter's ID, a window opens to the C:\Documents folder. This used to happen on my ID too, but doesn't anymore.
- When I log off my daughter's ID, I get a message that Explorer.exe is ending followed by a message that Explorer.exe isn't responding.

Another user another log…………please. make sure that you copy HJT to her documents , make another folder.

- I have a number of short cuts on the desktop to various web sites. I'm not sure how they got there, but they can be deleted.

delete them.
Thanks Little Eagle. Here is the log from my daughter's Id. I fixed the same things you told me to fix from the other Id.

Thanks again for your help.

Download then unzip and run CWShredder to clean up clicking "FIX" to have it remove all it finds.

CWShredder available from these places :-

http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads.php
Or this as a full download without any unzipping required
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/CWShredder.exe

We have found that some of the CWS infections can be removed better from safe mode, rather than normal mode.
To get to safe mode use the F8 key while booting the machine. Detailed instructions from here :-

Then post another log.
I don't see any errors when logging off my daughter's ID anymore. So things are really good now!

Here's the latest log. Can I go ahead and re-install the partental controls software?

Hi Little Eagle,

New log is below. Can I get rid of "ctfmon" and "my daily horoscope"? Both of these have shown up unexpectedly. Other than that, the system is really behaving quite well. I don't have anything else unexpected going on.

Thanks.

Hi RatherBGolfin, Sorry about the slow response time, I have be having trouble with my computer and some of the programs that I use to respond to logs. This needed to be corrected it. Reboot in SAFE MODE Click my computer and go to add and remove programs and remove MyDailyHoroscope If that doesn't work Click my computer>local disk>program files>and delete>the folder.
Hi Little Eagle, Don't worry about slow response time. I only get on this computer once a day or so. Besides, I'm really in pretty good shape now. I took off the horoscope thing. Unless you see something in the logs I posted earlier, I don't think I have any more problems. Thanks for all of your help.
