hello joycepat,

lets try this:

Make sure your PC is configured to show hidden files

Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

boot into safe mode by tapping the F5 key at boot up, chose safe mode, (if f5 dosnt work try f8), may take couple min. to get to desktop.

Scan with HijackThis and place an x next to the following entries, then press *fix checked*

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Restore] scrgrd.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Update Machine] wuamgrd.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System Update] C:\WINDOWS\System32\axypf.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [msn] msnmsg.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Restore] scrgrd.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Update Machine] wuamgrd.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msn] msnmsg.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [msn] msnmsg.exe

next still in safe mode find and delete these:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\scrgrd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuamgrd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msnmsg.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\axypf.exe

right click on start>explore> delete each of these .exe files in the windows\system32 folder, just the .exe file, not the folder itself.

back in normal mode do a couple on line scans here:

Thank-you so much. I am back home now so I am glad that she has a clean log. I have traveled to Florida twice in the last 2 months to fix her computer. It's great that she lives in Florida though. Thanks again.
