OK here goes. I think that I have tried everything before I had to bother you all but I cant seem to get rid of this thing. I just got this computer and it has XP on it which is fine, I'm just use to 98se. The thing is Ever since I got this thing its been acting up. Here is the message I keep getting.

AVG Resident Shield
virus identified worm/Lovsan.A
is found in file
C:\system volume
Information\_restore{59467B53-1752-4FOF-B918-B2C6A59A47B1}\RP6\A0002148.exe

To remove thes virus, please run AVG for windows.

I run AVG and it detects no virus but i still get the warning. It was detecting it at C\windows\system 32\teekids.exe
but I found that and deleated it. I hope that didnt hurt anything. anyway the computer seems to be running slow and when Im on the net I have a lot of pages that dont load. Even after I just had them loaded. I have installed just about every spyware remover that I know of and I still cant find what it is, I even ran housecall. Here is a hjt log if you need it. Please help I dont know what else to do. :(

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Plug And Play] msnmsg.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Plug And Play] msnmsg.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Plug And Play] msnmsg.exe

Reboot in "safe" mode. Use the link in my signature to tell you how if necessary.

Find and delete:

c:\windows\system32\msnmsg.exe <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden". Use the link in my signature to explain how to show "hidden" files if necessary.

Reboot in normal mode.

To get the worm out of that file, you have to turn your "system restore" OFF, first.

Please go here to learn how to turn "system restore" ON/OFF:

http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm

Do this:

1. Turn system restore OFF.

2. Run your antivirus program to clean it up. If it doesn't catch it, may I suggest 3 free online scans:

Trend-Micro:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Panda:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Etrust:
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

Choose fix or clean.

Let them remove any infections found. Reboot inbetween each scan.

I suggest you run these anyway, even if your resident software works on that worm.

3. Reboot after the scans.

4. Turn system restore back ON, then reboot once more. This creates a fresh restore point.

Then post a new log file in this thread & let me know how things are. :)
I couldnt find the c:\windows\system32\msnmsg.exe that you were talking about and i did change it to show hidden folders. I did find c:\windows\system32\msg.exe and i also found a lsass.exe in the system32 folder is that suppose to be there? the panda scan found a downloader.OG virusand told me to remove two reg entries : HKEY_classes_root\bridge.brdg and HKEY_Classes_Root\clsid\9c691a33-7dda-4c2f-be4c-c176083f35cf neither one could i find under regedit. One of the other scans found troj dload.a it said can not access c:\doc&settings\all user\local setting\temp internet\content IE5\oie6ywom\bridge-cll[1] \cab**bridge x.dll or something like that anyway. I also found msnnsg.exe-23b843df.pf in c:\windows\prefetch. what sould I do now. I did download the latest version of hjt and here is the new scan.

thanks for any help.
Please do not delete any files without consulting an expert first (especially in the Windows folder). The log looks clean. Don't worry about not finding that one file. You should be able to delete the file: c:\doc&settings\all user\local setting\temp internet\content IE5\oie6ywom\bridge-cll[1] \cab**bridge x.dll while NOT online. Run your resident virus scan software. Does your resident antivirus detect any infections now?
everything seems to be working fine now and the puter is much faster. avg 6.0 didnt find anything on my system so hopefully everything will be alright. thankyou so much for your time and knowledge. this is the third time you all have helped me i think its time for a donation. thanks again
Just glad we could help.

GOD bless!!!

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:

http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Download IE-Spyad here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

http://browsercheck.qualys.com/index.php

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.
(Although SP2 for XP is "iffy". Personally I'm waiting till they get the bugs out before I upgrade)
