Hi!

My apologies upfront for my lack of technical knowledge. I have spent hours at the microsoft site trying to help myself. Unfortunately to no avail. If someone can guide me through solving my problem, I will be greatly indebted.

The problem:

1. I have yahoo as my browser and homepage.
2. When I start internet explore (v.5) it goes to a place called http://ssearch.biz/?wmid=3302
3. The computer then freezes and an internet xplorer error message comes.
4. Internet explorer then closes.
5. The "back" button on the internet explorer is also not active.
6. I had netscape anti virus but that disappeared from my computer.
7. I have installed spybot and run it but nothing happens.
8. If a new page opens from a link (say from your site) it goes diretly to http://ssearch.biz/?wmid=3302 and the same thing happens again.

Can you please help?

Many thanks

Omar

Hello. And sure, I'll do what I can. :)

Number one. Install and run latest version of spybot s&d, which can be found in my siggy.
Install and run ad-aware 6.0 (link in siggy)
Next you will want to install and run HijackThis, (see siggy for link for program, and instructions how to use)
When you run HijackThis, click on Save log, copy and paste that log file into this thread and we will go from there. (Do not fix anything in HJT, until someone here has a look at it)
You may also want to run an anti-virus scan, a good online one is:Housecall
Also I recommend getting AVG anti-virus(which is free): Obtained here

Also, it wouldn't hurt to download and install Spyware Blaster and a good companion to that is: SpywareGuard

Hopefully we can get your system fixed up. :)

Dear SevenOwl Thank you for taking the time to reply to my query. I have updated and run spybot. I, however, can not get to the web page of the other links which you have given. When I click on the link, a new window opens and I am back with the searchbiz page. What I will do is that I will try and download the software on another computer and transfer the files to mine. I will let you know when I do this. Thanks again

Hi Sevenowl had to leave for the weekend and asked if I could give you a hand. I can tell you the ssearch is fairly new and the experts are working on it as we speak so hopefully we will be able to resolve it soon. Lets get some of the other nasties out.

Please boot to safe mode (tap f8 while bios loads) then scan again with hijackthis and put a check beside thee lines and choose FIX

Then while still in safe mode delete these files and folders, you may need to show hidden files & folders >>> tutorial here http://www.xtra.co.n...1916458,00.html

C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBSEARCH<<<Folder
C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\SYSTEM\MOSEARCH<<<Folder

Then reboot.

Please do a scan here >>> http://www.spywareinfo.com/xscan.php

Please let me know if the scanner removes anything or if there is something it can not remove. You may need to reboot after the scan.

Then please download the latest version of Hijackthis from HERE and post a new log please.

Hi Siggyx....thanks for helping me.

I have done as you instructed. The spyware scan first gave me a message that my computer had a "coolwebsearch" thing......but when I removed it and ran the scan again, it wasn't there. I also ran CWshredder and nothing came.

Here are the latest results from Hijackthis:

Your log looks pretty good at this point. Are you still having issues with your IE being redirected to ssearch? Try rebooting your computer a few times to see if it returns. Then post a new log. Sometimes these nasties will hide in the grass and wait a bit to return  There are some optional items we can remove but I want to make sure that ssearch is gone first.

A VERY VERY BIG THANK YOU!!! to you Seven Owl and Siggyx.....I am cured of my problem....you guys/girls are the best...simply awesome. Thank you for taking the the time to solve my problem. If I am not taking you for granted...will you please help me with another "small" issue. I downloaded a Anna Kournikova picture as wallpaper. I then removed it as my wallpaper...but each time I switch on and close my computer...it comes up. It doesn't show as the wallpaper though. Please don't inconvenience yourselves over the above query. Apart from a little embarassment at times, it doesn't cause me problems. If you don't have the time to answer it, it's OK...you solved my "big" problem....you will continue to be the BEST. Thanks
