The ASUS T300CHI is very slow processing even small videos. Startup, word processing and emailing times are similar to an older laptop; however, using Adobe Lightroom and LRTimeLapse for editing videos is extremely slow taking more than twice the time than on the older laptop. A short video took some 24 hours to process.
The tablet’s specs are:
Processor: Intel ® Core M-5Y71 CPU @ 1.2GHz 1.40GHz
Installed RAM: 4.00GB
System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch: Pen and touch support with 10 touch points
Windows specifications:
Edition: Windows 10 Home
Version: 1909
Installed on: 11/08/2019
OS build: 18363.720
The hard disk is a SanDisk SSD i110 128GB with 63.6GB used and 52.5GB free.
Manufacturer: ASUSTek Computer Inc
Report of Windows update processing:
I’m not sure if it is relevant, but after the video processing issue was experienced, Windows was updated from v1903 to v1909. After going through the download Windows Update said,
Feature update to Windows 10, version 1909,
Status: installing – 0%
and
Feature update to Windows 10, version 1909,
Status: We couldn’t install some updates using the account you’re signed in with. Try signing in with another account.
(There is only one sign-in account which is an administrator account.)
After a restart, Windows Update shows the entry:
Optional updates available
We couldn’t install this update, but you can try again (0x80246017).
Feature update to Windows 10, version 1909
Download and install (link)
However, the Setting | System | About screen shows Windows version as 1909. Clicking on the “Download and install” link replaced the “couldn’t install this update” message with:
2020-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems (KB4541335)
Clicking the “Download and install” link for this gave the status “Getting things ready” for about 3 minutes and then to “Downloading” which took about 26 minutes to 100% and a further 12 minutes on 100% before changing to “Installing” for 16 minutes to Restart. A further check of Updates showed computer is up to date. Update history confirmed the first failure to update to v1909 but that this was then successfully installed.
After looking at Startup in Task Manager, I’ve used Setting | Apps | Startup to turn off Canon’s EOS Utility and Microsoft OneDrive (both with high impact and not required to be running continuously).
So with all that background, is there anything that can be done to speed up the video processing tasks on this computer?
I’m submitting this topic on behalf of my brother who is not confident with this type of process.
