sorry if i caused an earworm! i'm not sure what's wrong. i was sent over bt safer networing after it was resolved that malware was not the problem. last night i attempted a system restore and it either crashed or froze but ended up at it could not open windows.it gave repairs to try which i tried a restart, no luck as it had become so that it would get to the lenovo icon page and say wait diagnosing then crash to the bkue page. next i tried system restore again and it went through and opened windows which had become tragically slow. there seems to be a ton of things wrong from the mouse going crazy to the task mgr showing a performance tab at 100%, all tabs with high numbers, memory, cpu. hoping someone can light my path for me as this laptop is just under 2 mo og
help! i need someone...

Just to let you know that I'm following and to allow time for someone(s) to respond.

thanks juliet! glad you're here!
Hi rb56, welcome to WTT.
Can you provide a link to your thread on Safer Networking so I can look at what you and Juliet did there please.
Do you have your data backed up? If not that's the first thing we need to do.
What Operating system are you using. Enter winver from a Run box will tell you. For instance, mine is: Win 10 version 1809 (OS Build 17763.437).
Provide some specs for your computer.
Make and model number for computer or motherboard.
How much RAM
Hard drives (Make and size)
Partition sizes and free space
Any other info you think might be useful
hello Z and thanks…sorry i meant to but forgot! https://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?77199-i-tried-the-old-thread-but-was-closed

Do you have an external hard drive? If so you can use Macrium Reflect Free to make an image backup of your hard drive. That way no matter what happens you can always get back to where you are now, even if it's not a great place to be and if we need to do a clean install, which is what I think you will need to do, all your data will be easily accessible in the backup image for you to copy back once the install has been done.
So, do you have an external hard drive you can backup to?
While thinking about backup, download Windows Repair All-In-One.
Run it in Safe Mode. Let it do all the repairs it's capable of, see if that clears up all or most of your problems.
See this tutorial: How to Start Windows 10 in Safe Mode
yes i have a seagate external
ok i'm here, ignore that imposter above me…one of my crazies escaped and they just love the internet. ok i will nervously reattempt safe mode with a new password.
ok, i created a new windows pw but appearantly it's just my account and mine isn't administrator like i thought it was. so i'm still at a loss as to log in with safe mode.
Is there an account that is an Administrator? Pretty hard to run a computer without one available.
Let's get your data backed up first. Download Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk from KYHI.
Get this one: Win14393PESE_x64 ISO v170116
Create a bootable flash drive using this manual process:
Here is a manual (non-Rufus) procedure originally posted by @NavyLCDR that I recorded and saved (with slight modifications). I've used it many times now and it works under all boot conditions, UEFI/GPT/MBR or CSM/MBR. Just follow the steps as written.
1. Kyhi's ISO file to your hard drive.
2. Insert the USB flash drive.
3. Open a Administrator Command Prompt. It will say Administrator Command Prompt in the Title bar. Enter the following commands:
4. diskpart
5. list disk
6. select disk # <- replace # with the actual disk number of the USB flash drive
7. clean <- this will erase the disk selected above, make sure you selected the USB flash drive in step 6.
7a. If the flash drive shows as GPT then you need to convert it to MBR: convert mbr
8. create part pri
8a. sel part 1
9. format fs=fat32 quick
9a. assign
10. active
11. exit
12. exit - and if the first Command Prompt was not an Administrator Command Prompt, exit that one too.
13. Mount the ISO you downloaded. You are using Windows 10 so you only have to right click on it and click on Mount.
14. Copy all the files and folders from the mounted ISO file to the USB flash drive. You can do this via drag and drop in File Explorer.
You can do the above using Rufus but there is more chance of getting a non-bootable flash drive if you do. This way works every time.
Boot the flash drive then use Macrium Reflect to make a backup image of your hard drive (all partitions) to your external hard drive.
ok my laptop has me listed as admin, i don't know why it refused me earlier trying to log into safe mode. i just had to log in and it let me in. i have a seagate external hard drive but no flash drive. will the seagate be the same? also i've never done a backup like this, i think the only backup i ever did was with the seagate and it did it all. i think i just selected folders to back up.
just now i opened cp and typed diskpart and was asked what file in flashdrive did i want opened or something like that…sorry i'm just not real pc savy.
