When the spring update occurs shouldn't we have to make new installation sticks with the MCT?
Media creation tool

I plan on doing a Windows Update. I will make a new installation flash drive, but not right away unless I have problems with the update, which I don't expect. I'm already running it (18362.30 19H1) or very close to the final May 2019 Feature Update on a Oracle VM and my HP Laptop. Both are running great with no problems.
Definitely create a new install media (flash drive) of the latest Windows 10 version, which will probable be build 18362.30 release 1903 (currently identified in Insider builds as 19H1).
1809 has been good to me so let's hope 1903 will also be good. Thank you - a new stick when it comes out.
Just for grins I used the Media Creation Tool last night to create a multi-version, 32/64 bit install flash drive. Used a 8GB USB flash stick and it finished with just under 500MB free.
When you boot it, you get a menu where you choose 32 bit or 64 bit.
The next menu you choose which version to install, Home, Pro, Home N, Pro N, and a couple others.
Pretty slick.
It certainly took a lot of space.I guess I have to be on my feet when creating it as there are more options.
I wish I had your knowledge b/c it must be so much fun and so rewarding to do those things. I am still working on firmware choices. ![]()
I just read you have to disable secure boot to use the stick. Is this true?
I have never done that and have the new UEFI.
Depends on how the stick is created. If you use RUfus and create it for EFI/GPT then it will work with Secure boot. If oyu use the manual method it should also work.
EFI/GPT so it should be ok and thank you for the reply.
Peter, try it, it won't hurt anything. Jut verify it boots correctly.
That way you'll know now and be able to take corrective action if it doesn't work right. Better to verify it now that wait until you need it and find out it doesn't work as you expected.
I am in touch with Asus tech and they are guiding me through my questions.
Did you read about the massive security breach at Asus e: a third party automatic update toll and a subsequent patch issued. It affected a great many people.
PS I tried as you said but I saw that secure boot was enabled but could not find a place to disable it. I saw keys but did not know what that meant.
When I click boot & advanced there is no place to disable secure boot. I think I see the manager in the place for setting boot order but there are two choices OS and manager sata. Of course I have nothing like a stick for the pc to see.
I always exit by clicking no changes till I am sure.
What key word would allow me to disable secure boot and how would I enable it again?
I know your board is different so if you cannot tell, don't both.
The manual is like greek to me.
I will see what Asus tech says.
I wonder, if you buy a new pc do you have to mess with firmware? I don't think 1 in 1K families could do this.
If the flash drive was create as UEFI/GPT to match your system then would expect it to work with secure boot as long as you select the flash drive from the UEFI boot section.
Should not have to disable secure boot. Hmm, I wonder if I have it disabled or not. I'll check and post back in a bit when I can get to my EFI settings.
The flash drive was created as UEFI/GPT like the system and does work well. I just talp F8 prior to post when the logo appears upon reboot and it appears for me to tap to boot of the stick.
I have not found how to disable secure boot in case I have to.
Neither have I seen where to set boot order- there is a place that says 'manger' as 1st boot so maybe if I had a stick in the pc that stick would appear there as a choice.
If a person bought a pc without legacy, when they tried to boot with a GPT stick would it boot or would they have to disable secure boot
In other words, under what circumstances would one have to disable secure boot?
I can't see the average user having to configure all these settings. I thought you buy the pc and the settings are set as they should be so the average user just boots up and uses the pc.
I have not found how to disable secure boot in case I have to.
Neither have I seen where to set boot order
