Good Morning Friends,

I can't get my laptop to even turn on. The f12 key blinks but nothing happens. Was fine when I left Tuesday. Don't know what to do.

Any Suggestions?

Thank You,

Marty

Hello MARTY1946,

Can you post the brand and model name or number of the notebook for us so that we can do some research.

Hello MARTY1946,

Does the same thing happen if you try powering up with the AC adaptor disconnected.

Does this model of HP have a removable battery or is it built in.

I can't get my laptop to even turn on. The f12 key blinks but nothing happens.

HP do not list such an error LED blink code which is odd, see info here

No help from HP with anything like a user manual I`m afraid  :(

Only do the following if you are ok with removing and reinserting the RAM as is shown in the attached video here

Please note that before you begin, the AC adaptor must be disconnected, the main power brick removed and the notebook power button pressed for a minimum of 20 seconds to get rid of any residual charge in the system, once this has been done, remove the RAM as in the video, connect only the AC adaptor to the notebook, with the RAM still removed, if applicable turn on the power at the wall socket then press the notebooks power on button, make a note of any change that there may be in the HP LED blink codes and listen out for any error beeps, post back with an update for us.

Was the above the outcome after you had followed the exact steps as was suggested in my reply #6.

#1: Is what should happen when you remove the RAM,

#2: There is no HP error code of this description but it would appear that the F12 key is related to the onboard wireless device.

What colour is the F12 LED.when lit up.

Replace the RAM, leave the main power battery out, connect the AC adaptor, press the power on button then post back and let us know if anything changed.

Was just checking as to how you access the CMOS battery on this model of HP notebook, not good news as you have to almost completely dismantle the notebook, not an easy task but doable if you are careful.

Hello MARTY1946,

For now, can you just let us know what the outcome of replacing the RAM and powering up was, can you also let us know if the internal cool fan spins up.

(3) Three Long (2) Two Short Lights Blink on Caps Lock Key

Please see the Hardware 3.2 (blink) info here

Thanks for the update and you are welcome btw  :)

Hello MARTY1946,

can you also let us know if the internal cool fan spins up.

I suspect that the answer to the above is no but can you please confirm.

Please see the Hardware 3.2 (blink) info here

Did you read the info at the link, if you are still getting the same 3.2 blink code it suggests either bad RAM or a bad MB which unfortunately means that you will need to get the notebook checked out by a local tech, they will have compatible RAM that they can try + a charger that they can use to make sure that the MB is getting power, only other check that I can think of other than this is to temporarily remove the wireless device as is shown in the same video as removing the RAM, this a real long shot and only suggested because of the behaviour of the F12 LED.

Hello Phil;

Sorry for the delay in answering.

I double checked the Model No. of the Laptop.

It is a HP15-f272wm.

I reseated the Memory.

Only the F12 blinks now. One long blink one short blink.

No Blinks on the Caps Lock.

There are Two Lights on the Right Side, a green light & a Orange Light.

Thanks,

Marty

No problem, we understand that you have other things to attend to.

Is there any warranty on this notebook, removing and replacing the RAM is ok but if anyone other than HP opens up the notebook any warranty that there may be will be void.

As said there are no blink codes for the F12 key so no idea what that means but the two LEDs on the side of the notebook are most likely the hard drive activity LED and the power/charging LED.

Can only reiterate the need to have the notebook checked by a local tech I`m afraid.

Hello Phil;

OK I understand about the problem with HP needing to want to fix any problems with their products.

I have already opened the case, and took out the RAM, & Then reseated it.

I will just do any troubleshooting that needs to be done to find the problem.

I'll get back to you, when its fixed.

Thanks For your Help.
