and the same problem as the last i believe. that being i don't know what if anything is wrong. i had windefender catch a trojan and i went to safernetworking https://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?74922-opening-aswMBR-causes-my-pc-to-shut-downto see if mabe any remnants still lingered and they refereed me here. included is a screenshot of windefender. there were a few d'loads at there site that wouldn't open. like to see if any body parts from the trojan may be trying to rejuvenate so thanks in advance…📎Untitled.jpg

Hello rb56,

This from a tech aspect only, anything related to malware being off limits on the tech forums.

Any BSOD/crash dmps at all.

made any significant changes since you last post a Speccy report for us.

lets start with some temp and voltage checks;

Download Speedfan from here and install it.  Once it's installed, run the program and post here the information it shows.  The information I want you to post is the stuff that is circled in the example picture I have attached.

If you are running on a vista machine, please go to where you installed the program and run the program as administrator.

 (this is a screenshot from a vista machine)

Download then run HWMonitor and post a screenshot so that we have a comparison to the Speedfan results, details from here

Hello rb56,

ok i did as requested and speedfan is still running after 6 hours

Not sure what you mean by the above as once you get the results as in my reply #2 you grab the screenshot, save and then upload it for us.

We need screenshots of both Speedfan and HWMonitor and not txt which in the main is of no use in HWMonitor, I did not post the instructions for how to add the screenshots as you obviously know "how to" based on your attachment in your OP, full steps included below in cse what I asked was not clear;

Please take expanded screenshots and only use the method below to attach them.

To capture and post a screenshot;

Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start…all programs…accessories…paint….left click in the white area …press CTRL + V…click on file…click on save…save it to your desktop…name it something related to the screen your capturing… BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG …otherwise it may be to big to upload… Click on the More Reply Options tab then after typing in any response you have… click on Choose File…desktop…find the screenshot..select it and click on Attach This File…on the lower left…after it says upload successful…click on add reply like you normally would.

Screenshot instructions are provided to assist those that may read this topic but are not yet aware of the “how to”.

ok phill my apologies. i hope i did this right, i couldn't get the entire page into view so one picks up where one was cut of. also the speedfan does not show the items you requested as circled.

No problem, we got there  :thumbup:

From my reply #2;

Any BSOD/crash dmps at all.

Couple of the voltage readings are off with the +3.3V rail being the most notable, the +3.3V rail powers the chipset, the memory, pci-e cards and various other chips on some MBs, the +5V stand by voltage reading is also low but it is so low it could be an anomalous reading, the +5VSB (or VCCH) powers the MB and USB ports while the computer is offline/hibernation etc.

Use the computer as best you can then restart and check the temps and voltages in the BIOS for us, see below;

Please restart your computer and check the temperatures/voltages in the BIOS, no screenshot is required just make a note of the temperatures and the +3.3V, +5V and the +12V and post them with your next reply.

NB: BIOS voltage readings.

The readings are not conclusive in the BIOS as the computer is under the least amount of load, if they are higher or lower than what they should be though it does suggest a PSU problem.

ok phill i woke my pc up today and checked my email, read msn news, read some sports articles and some on vegas. played a couple of online games and did the restart and the 3.3v showed 2.904, 2.880, and 2.904. the +5v, 4.939, 4.939 and 4.959. the +12v was 11.760 on all three readings.

Any BSOD/crash dmps at all.

Any chance of an answer  :P

played a couple of online games and did the restart and the 3.3v showed 2.904, 2.880, and 2.904. the +5v, 4.939, 4.939 and 4.959. the +12v was 11.760 on all three readings.

The +3.3V rail is the most worrying, the +5V reading in the BIOS is not the same as the one I explained in my reply #7, check your HWMonitor screenshot and you will see two +5V readings, the +5VCCH reading is the one that is off and being that is it the stand by voltage it is not reported in the BIOS, the +12V rail is borderline and may drop when the computer is under load, see PSU tolerance table attached, will wait on any crash dmp info that you may have for us for now.

it has crashed maybe twice the past two weeks. one it was updating and said it could not open windows and was restoring my old version. it eventually opened windows and looks all the same. as for BSOD crash not sure what that is.

BSOD can be either software or hardware related and with your +3.3V rail shown to be off it could be RAM related, crash dmps are hopefully already set up on your computer, please see below;

1. Copy any dmp files from C:\Windows\Minidump onto the desktop.

2. Select all of them, right-click on one, and click on Send To> New Compressed (zipped) Folder.

3. Upload the zip folder using the More Reply Options tab, Choose File then the Attach This File tab., bottom left of the dialogue input box.

Thanks  :)

Looked at your two latest dmp files and the cause could still be either hardware or software, memory corruption was mentioned in both dmps but at the same time software was also implicated;

Do you have a Logitech camera and software installed on you computer.

Have you checked the Device Manager for any yellow ! or red Xs.

Have you ever had Avast AV installed on this computer.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here,  this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

Edit to add, looked at another three dmp files when I finished work and noticed something else that appeared in three out of the five dmps FAULTING_IP: aswVmm+178be,which is an Avast driver, below is the info from your last crash PROCESS_NAME: CameraHelperSh is the Logitech camera software to which I refer above, the crashes could still be hardware related though as memory corruption is mentioned in five out of the five dmp files;

sorry to be so slow here…

yes i do have a logitech cam…fwiw, the cam has had problems before with shutting down. i'd have to reboot pc at times to get it off. task manager wouldn't end task. i've uninstalled completely and reinstalled and lately seems to do ok.

i have checked device mgr. as i had problems with my pc connection tethered to my samsung s7 active. i've used my at&t 4g to connect the internet. it seems there was a connection that would come from nowhere. once i connected to my phone to my pc, another connection would appear in the window network connections showing my connection SAMSUNG Mobile USB Remote NDIS Network Device and the other connection would appear (i did not create the connection) and it would take over the connection from my phone, then once it had the connection it would vanish thus dropping me offline. i use to have screenshots of the connection once it appeared in network connections but i no longer have them. otherwise i have had nothing unusual or flagged in device mgr.

i did have avast at one time maybe a year or two ago. then bitdefender and seems i remember avast caused some problems and bitdefender was unreal with problems causing me to quit both and now just use windefender.

sorry forgot this…
