The following are not necessarily spyware/malware, but we suggest you place a check mark next to the following entries, as these programs may be taking up system resources.
O2 - BHO: Java Plug-In 2 SSV Helper - {DBC80044-A445-435b-BC74-9C25C1C588A9} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\jp2ssv.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMAXPnP] C:\Program Files (x86)\Analog Devices\Core\smax4pnp.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] c:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CCleaner Monitoring] "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner64.exe" /MONITOR
O4 - Startup: Dropbox.lnk = Thomas\AppData\Roaming\Dropbox\bin\Dropbox.exe
Then reboot to set the registry.

MalwareBytes isn't an antivirus. Unless it's the premium version it doesn't have any background protection installed or anything actively monitoring your computer,Are you using Windows Defender totally for antivirus protection?
I am not sure..how can I check? I use Malware Bytes

Hi,
I did the HijackThis, Click Do a system scan only. Then rebboted.
I also have the MalwareBytes premium edition.
Thanks.
Unfortunately no improvement- on booting it starts off fine, but after a couple of minutes, it pretty much grinds down ![]()
then click on show processes from all users
scroll through the list and try to locate what is using the most CPU?
Hi,
CPU USage is only 25% and Physical memory is 58%
For CPU Usage, the main items were:
System Idle Process
Task Mgr.exe
Firefox.exe
Chrome.exe
Description: The backup was not successful.
The error is: There is not enough space on this drive to save the backup.
Free up space by deleting older backups and unnecessary data or change your backup settings.
you should check your drive.
Go to Start/Search and type CMD right click the CMD icon in the search results and Run As Administrator.
In the Elevated Command Prompt type chkdsk C: /R and press enter.
Now type a Y for Yes. And restart the computer.
Check Disk will run at next bootup through 5 steps. That will correct any problems and check your drive for bad blocks
Try the above and let's see if we get improvements.
Did as suggested:
Go to Start/Search and type CMD right click the CMD icon in the search results and Run As Administrator.-OK
In the Elevated Command Prompt type chkdsk C: /R and press enter.-OK
Now type a Y for Yes. And restart the computer.-OK
—Check Disk will run at next bootup through 5 steps.(The machine just started up-No 5 steps or anything like that).

Hello,
Ran the chkdsk. Looks like no bad sectors in there. Nothing yet:-(
It went through 3 stages..
For CPU Usage, the main items were:
System Idle Process
Task Mgr.exe
Firefox.exe
Chrome.exe
when your on the computer.
Close down one of the programs, either Firefox or Chrome, Right click on the exe in the task manager and do end task.
Use the computer that way for a few minutes and see what the results are.
Thanks for your continued effort to help me-really appreciated!
Closed the Chrome, right click the Task Manager exe and closed the process. However not much changed. Right after working for 5 minutes or so, the computer becomes noisy and then then everything starts crawling.
