Recently I had to re-install my OS Win 7 Home.  Since then I have an annoying pop-up file open dialog every morning.

It is the basic "Choose program to open" but the remember choice box is greyed out.

Further the file that is attempting to open is probably a text file, as any of the text file programs opens it.  The contents of the file are as follows:

Installation log file for "DW WLAN Card".

Log Starts on Date: 11-24-2016 Time: 20:29:08
=====================================================
20:29:08: GetOSInfo(): Detected Windows 7
20:29:08: GetOSInfo(): Product Type: Home Premium
20:29:08: InstallShield script aborting.

Log ends on Date: 11-24-2016 Time: 20:29:08

I have opened msconfig to try and delete the command to open this file, but don't know where it is.

Can anyone let me know how to disable this startup option and then delete the file, as it looks like a file generated when the OS was re-installed.

Thanks.

It's a small utility provided by Microsoft (from SysInternals) that will identify all the various startup items and plugins, etc.

Stay away from the Drivers and Services tab and you should be OK. The nice thing about the tool is that you can uncheck an item to disable it, but recheck it if it doesn't give you the desired results.

Look through the list and see if you can identify what is running on startup causing the pop-up then disable it and reboot. If the problem is fixed, great. If not, enable the item you disabled and try again.

Have fun!

p.s. You may not have to reboot to reproduce the problem. Simply logging off and back on might be all it takes - which will be a lot faster.
