The upgrade with the laptop was fine. Not so with the desktop; hanging/freezing. Flickering and other signs there was an issue. I tried to clear it up with SFC and DISM to to no avail. So as advised I clean installed.
This freezing issue is all over the web if you look. MS even said to uninstall until a fix is found.
So it is chance.
I have been running other tasks like disabling or removing 3rd party and replacing them with those compatible with Win 10.
The biggest culprit but one I need is Chrome. When removed it works much much better. I depend upon Chrome as my phone uses it and I sync all to desktop from phone. I have found a work around though and use Edge. The laptop witch is very similar to the desktop and has no trouble with it or those 3rd party apps I removed.
I ran windows on Ccleaner and DISM once more and now I get an occasional freeze.
It worked fine in safe mode with networking.
As I said I do have images of it running well won both 1511 and 1607 so I will try to get the kinks out and image again if ok. I am asking for any help ideas or if others are having issues.

Or make a backup on an external hard drive and do a factory reset - keeping Windows 10 , be warned if you revert to 8 you may have to pay a fee to upgrade to 10
I ran system restore after a conflict but all went south.
I am putting the final touches on a Macrium image I created as soon as I did a clean install.
That damn Chrome messes everything up when I try to use it. My phone came with Chrome that's why I tried to use it. I also need Drive for my wife's probable transition to Chromebook. I am using Edge successfully.
I replaced some 3rd party apps that are compatible with Win 10.
Defrag at 12% reported it needed to run so it is now. After the updates this coming Tues. or Wed. I will image again if MS has worked some bugs out.
How are you doing with Win 10? That's a silly question b/c you can fix any issues.
Thanks again.
Peter
P.S. I have an image of 1511 which was a charm. I wish I never had to stop deferring but Defender is better with 1607.
Win 10 has been rock solid for me on my Lenovo desktop, Toshiba and Dell laptops, Dell Venue tablet and a couple virtual machines.
The only real problem I had was the Lenovo wouldn't shutdown completely which was fixed by turning off Fast Startup. Had to do it again after the Anniversary update.
All are at teh Anniversary Update + follow-on updates or the latest Insider Preview version.
I read where you really dislike Chrome and I have a feeling, after searching the web, and with my experience, when Chrome is installed all is crazy but without it, all is fine.
I see. That is the case with the lap top.
Only this desktop was an issue.
.Have you ever run Chrome on any of them?

I amusing Edge with no issues now.
Sorry for the off topic post but just wanted to say:
Really? I've had the opposite experience. With me, it's internet explorer that constantly crashes so I need either Firefox or chrome
It's ok as any help is appreciated. My laptop is lucky as it upgraded with no issue. The machines are almost identical. I have run SFC, DISM, clean boot, removed Chrome, and 3 3rd party apps - this am I was told to go to power opts and choose how the buttons work and turn off fast startup. We will see if it helps. I have imaged back to 1511 which was great but I cannot defer forever and 1607 has a belter Defender. I did a clean install but as soon as the updates came, the pausing before responding for about 20 seconds started all over again.
I dislike Chrome. It uses way to many resources and causes strange hangs and BSODS at times.Seamonkey, Firefox and IE are all I use as I don't like Edge much either.
Peter, add this parameter to the Google Chrome shorcut: –disable-gpu, see if that makes a difference. This prevents Google Chrome from using GPU features.
Yes Rich, I agree with all those comments about Chrome especially the hangs. I am a hunt and peck typist so I use Chrome's mic which I find better than Edge. The average person types 40 wpm so I am around 25.
I remember you using Sea Monkey years ago - I think you said you use the suite back then, but could wrong.
I never keep shortcuts on my desktop and just tried to make one with Chrome but could not. Could you please tell me how to make a short cut and add that command to it - sorry, would if I could?
