Hi,

My windows 7 desktop started to behave oddly and I did a fresh instalation after a low level formatting with Darrik's Boot and Nuke. Since then, the graphics seem not to run smoothly.

The first sympton was the taskbar thumbnails that used to pop-up when i passed the mouse pointer over the minimized apps in the taskbar. The thumbnails were just gone. In their place, just a text with the name of the app running, or website being visited. Online Unity games (like BeGone) also didn't look well. Lots of lags and bad renderizations.

I installed all the drivers available in the motherboard manufacturer website. The graphics are surely not ok. Can you help me?

Motherboard: Kronnus XBH55MINI UDP ATTIS Wks Series

CPU INTEL Core i3 540 3.06 GHz

Integrated video board

Kind/Dimensions: Micro ATX / PCB: 20.0 x 24.5 cm
Chipset: Intel H55 Express
CPU socket: Intel LGA1156

Cheers and many thanks in advance.

Pablo

Hi Pablo and welcome to our forum,

:welcome:

It looks like you have received no replies to your topic so far, so I checked my data sheets to see if there was any information on file about your computer's motherboard.

1 Unfortunately I could find nothing listed, and that is unusual…are you sure you quoted the correct details?.

2 Is this a home built computer or one purchased from a retail store? Dell, Toshiba, Asus, Acer, HP, Compaq, Lenovo, Fujitsu etc etc.?

3 If it's a retail model please quote the exact make and model number.

4 Are you sure you installed the correct chipsets and video drivers for your computer, as this is the most likely cause of the issues you are experiencing?

5 If this problem endures, then I would recommend that you re-image your computer's hard drive to an effective working state using a disc image created before the problem started. A good disc image (system image) created using Windows native tools included in Win 7, or  third party tools like for example, Acronis, Easus, Symantec. Macrium or whatever, will do the job just fine.

6 If the correct drivers have been installed and the reimaged drive still is not working properly, then the next step would be to obtain, (borrow or buy) a stand alone video card compatible with your computer, install it in accordance with the maker's directions and see if that fixes the problem.

Post back and let us know how you get on.

Hi, Paws

I hope you had a superb weekend and would start this new one totally refreshed!…

Sorry, I didn't said my desktop model to you! It's a "N3 Computadores" [http://www.n3computadores.com.br/]"UPI.03.231" (its model) retail store.

It has a Kronnus motherboard [http://www.kronnus.com.br/]with a Intel Core i3, etc, as i said above.

Searching the N3's website looking for the proper drivers i was directed to their download links on Kronnus' site server. For example, [http://www.kronnus.com.br/download/XBH55MINI/video_W7_x64.zip]for the Windows 7 video driver. "XBH55MINI" is the motherboard model.

I totally agree with you from the depths of my vast ignorance that this is the kind of problem that tipically occurs when you don't have the right drivers installed. I have no idea what's happening. But there's more.

One of the symptoms i forgot to tell you is a system message warning about the ideal screen resolution. It has been constantly showing up to say i should set it to the 1366 x 768 value. But it happens to be exactly the choice i made from the beginning!

I can't re-image my hd since i didn't image it before. Wish i knew this then.

After reading this, do you think i should try the new video card option?

Cheers,

Pablo

For those of you who did'nt undestand why Tecolote replies a thread started by Buho, i can tell you both are the same person. it happens that i had long ago made a profile using my Spybot forums' nickname, but have forgotten its password and made a new one. One day i tried to change the password for the old profile, but forgot the one i have just made! So now i have 2 profiles, and the same problem.

See you,

Pablo

It's Ok Pablo I figured it out, you have some stray characters in your links that break them

Now I Know that, I can open your links, and I'll take a good look at them, and get back to you later on today ( I'm on GMT [ Zulu] or UTC.

Hi Pablo,

I 'm having real trouble with this (hence the delay in getting back to you) :(

1 Can you recheck the exact make and model number of your computer and post it back in your reply please?

2 I can't get any information on the make and model number you originally mentioned on the website you provided (the first link in your opening post) that webpage refers to a multitude of different models… :(

3 My knowledge of your language is poor (actually its non existent!) and this may be part of the problem I'm experiencing in trying to ascertain the make and model number and the correct driver for your Win 7 64 bit operating system.

4 Am in correct in working on the basis that your video adapter is one that is incorporated (as chip) in your motherboard and we are not talking about a separate video card.?

5 If you have access to a compatible video card that you can fit, then it may be worth trying this, but do follow the makers instructions when fitting it and setting it up.

Hi Paws

So let me help you help me…

1 Please look at this link: [http://www.kronnus.com.br/produto.php?cat=motherboard&cod=7]That's my motherboard. The page lists all its components. I cant tell you the meaning of something you don't understand, but you will certainly not going need much help on this.

2 My OS is Windows7 32 bits. I don't know why, but it was the only avaiable version of Windows 7 Home Basic here…

3 You're completelly right in working with the fact this is an integrated video card, not a separate one.

4 I could try a compatible videocard, it probably wouldn't be so hard to find one, but i prefer to wait what you will find about it in your research.

Best regards,

Pablo

Hi Pablo

It looks like the drivers you need are here:

http://www.kronnus.com.br/produto.php?cat=motherboard&cod=7]

scroll down to the section headed Drivers

and download and install the two upper ones (the first two that you come to)

That should do the trick.. if it doesn't then post back as I will make a further recommendation to check out the actual hardware on your motherboard before suggesting fitting a separate video card

Hi, Paws

I installed the drivers and checked Unity and Google Maps to see if the performance has improved. As soon as the game began (the 3d graphics environment was running), there came that system tray message suggesting me to change the screen resolution to the values (1366 x 768) they were already set. The lags between the renderization of Maps were greater, the transitions not smooth. It is as if the video card can't work in real time, or the graphics were too heavy for it to draw accordingly. It's just sad. They're the manufacturer's drivers. What about now? Is there a reliable source of compatible drivers for this kind of hardware? Like Microsoft plug-n-play lybraries or something? Even if you have to pay for them…

Many thank yous

Buho

Hi Pablo, Unfortunately not.

Lets try and rule out a hardware problem with your motherboard and the video chip circuits.

Download an .iso of your favourite Linux distribution  (Puppy is good and its only a fairly small download) burn the .iso as an image, it must be as an image a plain copy won't work, boot from the disc and give Puppy a trial, there's no need to install anything, as Puppy will run quite happily in RAM.. follow the onscreen prompts.

Remember Linux is not Windows, but its all pretty straightforward, see if Puppy has selected the correct drivers and screen resolution.

If Puppy experiences the same or similar problems as you have been experiencing with Windows then its pointing towards a hardware failure on your motherboard and I would try a separate add on video card as discussed previously.

However if Puppy runs just fine then its pointing to a Windows/driver error so at least we will know where to focus our attention.

Let us know how you get on
