Hi. my computer is affected with the blue screen problem frequently everytime i switch it on. it keeps doing it multiple times right after start up, as well as the screen going black and restarting itself. I also probably have a problem with the graphics driver too. when i go on the internet web page, a part of it doesn't display properly, so i have to scroll the page down and then back up again to display it properly.

i was referred here by a helper from spybot forum. Here is the link of what already has been tried.

Hi Edgecrusher,

and welcome to the WTT forums.

I see you have done lots of work over at Safer Networking with Juliet, and its good to know that virus or malicious code has been ruled out as a potential culprit.

To try and get to the bottom of the problem we will need further info from you:

1 Make and model number of your computer and if all Windows updates have been installed?

2 Do you have onboard video (incorporated within the motherboard) or is there a separate video card that either you or the system supplier installed ?

3 Have you tried to update your drivers including video driver from the manufacturers website… if so what was the result and which driver did you try and install?

4 Have you tried running "Who Crashed" ? if not please go here:

http://www.resplendence.com/downloads

scroll down to "Crash analysis tools" download and run the free version and post the log in your reply.

5 Have you tried your computer in safe mode?… does it run without crashing? (don't try and access the Internet just check the computer out for a while, docs, photos, etc)

6 Have your tied setting up a new user account (via control panel>UserAccounts…) if not please do so, restart your computer and log onto the new account….. and report it this helps reduce the problem

7 Have you tried booting to a live distro of Linux (Linux Puppy is good) and see if the problems is solved? if not then try it… if you need directions on how to do this just ask and we will post them.

Let us know how you get on

Regards

Conclusion

50 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. Only 10 are included in this report. 4 third party drivers have been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

igdkmd32.sys (Intel Graphics Kernel Mode Driver, Intel Corporation)
tffsmon.sys
pctcore.sys
avipbb.sys

If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination with the errors that have been reported for these drivers. Include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query. This often yields interesting results from discussions on the web by users who have been experiencing similar problems.

Read the topic general suggestions for troubleshooting system crashes for more information.

Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.

i have run the computer in safe mode and nothing happened. No blue or black screen. Right now i've created another user  account, so far so good. i wll report back to you again about the user account. will use it again tomorrow, just to check.

OK all understood

Please give both of these methods of running, a good trial, as diagnostically they are significant and will help us "zero in" on on the areas that are causing the blue screen issues.

If both methods (or even just the one) prove reliable and blue screen free….. then we can recommend the necessary actions to prevent the problems on a permanent basis.

so far so good, no blue or black screen has happened in the last few days. Which is very surprising. When i now use my sisters account on the computer (she no longer uses it and for a couple of years) no problems have appeared. Even no sign of the graphics problem, i usually see on the screen either. I wonder what stopped all the problems? i feel like i dont need to go ahead with step 7(Linux).

Ok, all understood.

On the forum here we can only deal with "probabilities" as to where the blame lies for the problems….( whereas if we had the computer in the workshop we could be more definite)

However the complete absence of symptoms when logging on to the new or different user account is highly indicative of a corrupted user profile with your regular log in account. If you are sure that logging on to your sister's account is the complete answer…..( give it an extensive test, so you are really sure it works ok consistently and without problems then:

Here's the instructions on how to regain access to all files in your regular account so that everything is accessible via the new/sisters account.

You will need to modify them a little as your sisters account is already set up.

You will need 3 user accounts in total

your regular account

your sisters account

a new account

all should have admin status

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/fix-corrupted-user-profile#1TC=windows-7

Hopefully this should be the end of your problems…..

when you have finished testing it all thoroughly then don't forget to make a system restore point and also take a disc image or two and keep one of them safe offsite on removable media….

If you dont have the Win 7 installation disc handy then also make a system repair disc… then you should be good to go.

Post back one more time when you are finished just to let us know that all is well.((No need to do the Linux Puppy step)

Ok, i have created another new user account. And copied and pasted everything in to the new account created today. But im not sure how to import all my email stuff in to the new user account.  I use Outlook. Also on the link provided, it says you can deleted the old account profile, does that also mean the second user account too?

I would be inclined to hold fire for a while before removing the regular and other account (Sisters)….( just to be on the safe side… if things are still Ok after a month or so then Yes the extra accounts can be removed via control panel>>user accounts

It was good to hear that you have been able to copy your stuff across to your new account…… but I hope you remembered to leave these files alone and not copy them across:

Ntuser.dat
Ntuser.dat.log
Ntuser.ini
Make the system Restore Point now, and another one when you have sorted your email out OK, same goes for the disc imaging…

If you use MS Office Outlook with POP rather than IMAP (or don't just use regular webmail) then you will need to do some more work with the .pst file that contains all your old email and contact info;

Here's the link for the details:
