my kids played with my laptop and now when i start it it boots I get a windows logo (vista) and then I get a black screen.
help am computer illitterate.

Hi mtnbear and welcome to WTT forums.
Sorry to hear of the issues with your computer.
1 Can you tell us please the make and model number of your computer and the exact details of your Windows Vista operating system ( I.E. Vista Basic Home premium etc., and if 32 or 64 bit and the level of service pack installed and if all important windows updates have been installed. This information will help us to help you.
2 Have you tried booting into "safe mode with networking" or "safe mode with VGA"....?
3 Post back if you need instructions on how to do that.
