Have you tried turning it off in Windows Defender itself? If not, see this.

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.

SystemLook (32-bit)
SystemLook (64-bit)

  • double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
  • copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield - please make sure you include the colon, (:), at the beginning:

    :reg
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender

  • click the Look button to start the scan.
  • when finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.

Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

Im stuck trying to suss out the security.

Here is a check log i ran just prior to posting.

 Results of screen317's Security Check version 0.99.93
   x64 (UAC is enabled)
 Internet Explorer 11
``````````````Antivirus/Firewall Check:``````````````
McAfee Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware
 WMI entry may not exist for antivirus; attempting automatic update.
`````````Anti-malware/Other Utilities Check:`````````
 Google Chrome (39.0.2171.95)
````````Process Check: objlist.exe by Laurent````````
`````````````````System Health check`````````````````
 Total Fragmentation on Drive C:  %
````````````````````End of Log``````````````````````
Basically its the same as the last one.
McAfee firewall is off. i cannot turn it on, whenever i press the on button, it flashes on and then straight back to off.
The windows defender firewall is the main problem. Ive attempted to follow the instructions on eightforum. The forum shows that if i click on defender, itll bring up window with all the commands/options ect. However when i click on defender i only get a box saying the following.
'This application has been switched off and isnt monitoring your computer.
if you are using another app to check for malicious or unwanted software, use action center to check that apps status'
When i check action center it tells me that mcAfee firewall is off.... that is all.
Im slightly concerned that i now have a computer that is connected to the internet but has no firewall. I will keep trying.
Kev
I would say that if you turn on the McAffe firewall, it will disable the Windows firewall, (which is usual), and like-wise about the antivirus.
If you don't have any current problems I would trust the security you have that it has dealt with it.
I'll leave this open for 24 hours in case there is a problem, after which I'll close it.
Have a good 2015.
