I'll continue with the repair.
Thank you!

Hi there!
I did the repairs and the log is below. I tried to do a Windows Update and it actually acted like it was checking for an update (checking for over 20 sec). Then I received the same message to "Restart your computer to install important updates". So I restarted and tried updates again and received the same message, Windows cannot update important files and services while the system is using them and to restart.

Hi NoNo,
When you restart after attempting to update:
How is the computer running other than not being able to get Windows updates?

Hi-
#1, I try to update. This last time when I tried, it automatically checked right when I opened Wind Update. It still shows that Ive 'Never' checked for updates.
I've mainly just been on the internet, which seems to be working fine. Ive only been on Chrome and not IE.
Booting up seems to take forever. After I sign in, it seems to freeze at the Welcome screen for about 60 sec. Sometimes when starting up it acts glitchy (icons remain white and dont load for a bit and sometimes flash, then load. Same with the Taskbar on bottom. Maybe with all the repairs, etc.
My son says Chrome keeps crashing when he plays Roblox. Maybe after I update programs that will stop.
Should I get rid of Sec Essent? Its never caught or warned me about anything since Ive had it? Or should we go over programs later?

Hi NoNo,
The minimum system requirements for ROBLOX are listed below. If you are experiencing issues playing the game, you may need to upgrade your computer.
Operating System Requirements
PC/Windows: ROBLOX will install on Windows XP; however, for optimal performance, we recommend Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. For Windows 8 you will need to run ROBLOX in Desktop Mode, as Metro Mode is not currently supported.
Mac: ROBLOX will install on 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and higher - and Intel only Macs. (Mac 10.9 is not currently supported)
Apple iOS: ROBLOX Mobile supports iPad 2+, iPhone 4+ and iPod touch 5th Generation. iOS 5 or greater is required.
Linux: ROBLOX is not supported on Linux.
Note: ROBLOX video recording feature only works on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.
Note: As of April 8, 2014, Microsoft has stopped support and updates for Windows XP.
System Requirements
Graphics Card: ROBLOX requires DirectX 9 minimum and Shader Model 2.0. For the best performance we recommend either a computer less than 5 years old with a dedicated video card, or a laptop less than 3 years old with an integrated video card.
Processor: ROBLOX recommends you have a recent processor (2005+) with a clock speed of 1.6 Ghz or better. There have been some issues with older AMD processors.
RAM or Memory: ROBLOX recommends you have at least 1 GB of memory on Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 computers. At least 512 Mb of memory is recommended for Windows XP.
Storage Space: ROBLOX recommends you have at least 20 Mb of system storage space to install ROBLOX.
Internet Requirements
For a single-use household, ROBLOX recommends a minimum 4-8 Mb/s internet connection. In larger households, greater bandwidth is advisable.

Hi NoNo,
Yes it appears it is downloading updates. I can't tell you why it shows never.
Please open your Control Panel > Programs & Features
In the left hand margin locate View Installed Updates
Take a screen shot of this screen, scroll down to the Microsoft Windows section and see how many items have been installed and see if there are any from earlier dates.

Hi- Yes I still need help. Sorry I took awhile to get back to you.
There are 350 updates from 1/20/2008 to 9/8/2013. The last update for Microsoft Windows was Windows Internet Explorer 9 on 9/8/2013.

Hi - It doesn't give me a list anymore of what I need to update. It usually doesn't 'check for updates' long enough (3 sec) to find out. All those new non Microsoft Windows updates (38 updates) just appeared there on 6/30/2014 and Microsoft Windows updates haven't been seen since last year (Windows IE 9 on 9/8/2013). It should give me a list of needed and important updates for me to choose from, that;s how I have it set. Oh, Microsoft Security Essentials updates are the only updates updating and showing up in Update History:

Hi NoNo,
I can't say definitively but maybe with Vista being an older operating system maybe there just aren't very many updates provided by Microsoft. And as you stated you are receiving MSE updates.
Aside from this issue how is the computer running?

It seems to be running pretty good.
I know Microsoft no longer updates XP but I didnt know that they stopped Vista updates.
I want to get rid of Mirco Sec Essentials and use another anti-virus prog.
What about SFC and CHKDSK?

1. Stopping Windows Update service.(don't disable it, just stop it).

I can help you with a different AV when we have finished. For now keep MSE enabled.
Please explain what you mean by "What about SFC and CHKDSK?"
We ran chkdsk and the results were OK.
We could always try and run SFC again, but I don't think the results will be any different. And I am unsure as to why it is giving that message.

Hi - Ok, somewhere online when looking up diff Win Update problems, I read to first try the following when there is a prob with windows updates:
1. Stopping Windows Update service.(don't disable it, just stop it).
2. Delete everything in c:\windows\softwaredistribution including all subdirectories.
3. Start Windows Update service and try again.
Then someone said " A better solution would have been to rename the folder, rather than delete it - thereby preserving the data it contained (if you ever needed it for anything,
Wanted to see what you think about this. I looked at the c:\windows\softwaredistribution file and I have 2 of them!
