hi adam sry for delay in responding. i cant download any updates as it just continues to search, i left it for about 17hrs and it was still searching so i aborted the task. ive disabled java but the page to the securitycheck appears to be unavailable. i wandered if you could send me another link plz. thx

Troubleshooting Windows Updates issues can be rather cumbersome. We will try one round of troubleshooting, and if the issue is not resolved I will pass you over to the Windows forum.

Please visit this page. Click the, "Click here for screen317's Security Check." to download the file, and then proceed with the following instructions.

• Please download FSS and save the file to your desktop.
• Right-Click FSS.exe and select [external image: AVOiBNU.jpg] Run as administrator to run the programme.
• Ensure the following items are checked:

  • [external image: TA6BLVm.png].
  • [external image: e1PK1mD.png].
  • [external image: mQdJltp.png].
  • [external image: 7wCHunX.png].
  • [external image: wU6iCZ5.png].
• Click [external image: YMLYaf6.png].
• A log (FSS.txt) will be created on your desktop. Copy the contents of the log and paste in your next reply.

• Please download Windows Repair and save the file to your desktop.
• Right-Click Windows Repair and select [external image: AVOiBNU.jpg] Run as administrator to run the programme.
• Temporarily disable your anti-virus software. For instructions, please refer to the following link.
• Follow the prompts by clicking Next, and finally, Finish.
• Go to Step 2. Under See If Disc Check Is Needed, click Check.
• If you receive the following message: Errors Found On The Drive! Check Disk Is Needed!, click Do It in the Check Disk (If Needed) box.
• Upon completion, go to Step 3. Click Do It under System File Check.
• Go to Step 4 and click Create under System Restore, followed by Backup under Registry Backup.
• Go to Start Repairs and click Start.
• Click Select All, followed by Start.
• Note: Do NOT use your computer whilst the programme is running. 
• Upon completion, re-enable your anti-virus software and reboot your computer. 
• Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the following folder:
  • 64-bit Systems: C:\Program Files (x86)\Tweaking.com\Windows Repair (All in One)\Logs 
  • 32-bit Systems: C:\Program Files\Tweaking.com\Windows Repair (All in One)\Logs
• Open the log. Copy the contents and paste in your next reply.
• Please attempt to install Windows Updates, and report what happens. 
   

If you are still unable to install Windows Updates, please visit this page. Click Run now and follow the prompts. Attempt to install Windows Updates, and report what happens. 
 
If you are still unable to install Windows Updates, please do the following:

• Click the Windows Start button, followed by Programs, and then Accessories.
• Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
• Type net stop wuauserv and hit the Enter key.
• Type rename c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old and hit the Enter key.
• Type net start wuauserv and hit the Enter key. 
• Type Exit and hit the Enter key.
• Navigate to c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution and verify a folder was just created.
• Restart your computer and attempt Windows Update.

Please report whether a step worked or not, as well as including the FSS log, Tweaking Windows Repair log and securitycheck.txt.

hi adam im sry for delays, i am struggling to get the laptop to work at all now. all the logs have gone off the screen and windows is virtually non responsive constantly, its worse than when we first started lol, im thinking i may need a new laptop… i will re run the scans and try to post the logs again,

Please exit out of the programme if you haven't already done so. Repeat the instructions for Windows Repair one more time. Ensure you right-click the file and select Run as administrator. This is important!

If the programme hangs again, exit out and let me know. If the programme successfully completes, please attempt Windows Update and post the log generated.
 
Hold back on proceeding with the other instructions in my last post if you find Windows Updates still does not work.

• Do you have access to the Internet using the computer?
• Does Windows Update function correctly? If there are many Updates to install, please attempt to install a few at a time. 
• Do you receive any errors when you turn your computer on?

It is important to remember that the issues you are experiencing may be caused by the lack of RAM of your system. We can continue troubleshooting these issues, but you may eventually find the only resolution is to address your RAM. 
 

im struggling to update windows it finds the updates but won't let me install them ive tried to do them singularly but it says error!

Does the error reference any number or identification code? Does it give you any additional information on the nature of the error?
