Download About:buster and unzip it to your desktop.

Download CWShreadder

Click here for instructions on how to boot into safe mode.

Boot up in safe mode.

Run About:buster, click OK, Start, and OK again to start the scan. Let it scan and fix everything it finds. It should give you a log at this point, copy it to a text file and save it.

Then run CWShredder to clean up clicking "FIX" to have it remove all it finds.

Reboot your computer in normal mode, and post the log from About:buster and a new log from Hijackthis.

There is a newer of HijackThis1.98.0
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/hijackthis.zip
Please scan with this version Before you post another log.

And you are running HijackThis out of a temporary directory.
Can you please create a folder in My Documents .
Click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis".
Now you have C:\HJT\ folder. Put your HijackThis.exe there, and double click to run it.
The reason for this is that HijackThis will create backup files.

When you have done this, Reboot, and Post another log.

You have a different form of CWS. Click here to download FindnFix.exe (2K/XP only!) by freeatlast. Double-click on the FINDnFIX.exe and it will install a folder called FINDnFIX on your system. Go to that folder and double-click on !LOG!.bat. The program takes a few minutes to collect the necessary information. When done post the contents of Log.txt in this thread.

OK, fortunately you don't have a hidden hijacker. Click here to download System Security Suite. Extract it from the zip file into a folder.

Reboot into Safe Mode by tapping F8 after the BIOS has loaded. With only HJT running have it fix:

Find and delete:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\winupd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\lfoborn.exe
C:\WINDOWS\alchem.exe

Reboot back into normal mode. Go to the folder where you saved System Security Suite and doubleclick on sss.exe. Check the boxes under the 'Items to Clear' tab and click 'Clear Selected Items'. You will be prompted to reboot, do so. Repeat for all log-in accounts on your computer.

Rescan with HJT and post a new log.
Few problems with suggestions. I could not get PC to boot in safe mode using F8 at startup. INstead used msconfig file to activate this. When in safe mode my login account does not appear - I log on as the Administrator (this may be nrmal as I am the one with administrator rights). There is only one other user on the PC and and inactive guest. In the safe mode some of the files to be fixed or deleted do not appear.I have printed a log having run HUT in safe mode. This is below…

I have just re-read this posting and realise it looks ridiculous as all the files are listed in both logs. However I could not see all these files when running the HJT programme. You missed this one:

O2 - BHO: MxTargetObj Class - {0000607D-D204-42C7-8E46-216055BF9918} - C:\WINDOWS\mxTarget.dll

Fix it whilst only running HJT. Reboot when done - let me know how it is. You still have a few start-ups I need to investigate.
You're welcome - glad to help :D

To help keep you clean follow the recommendations in Tony's article here:

So how did I get infected in the first place?
