Ok. In a strange turn of events, I decided to use the disk that came with the printer (yes I still have it *cough*hoarder*cough*) and the drivers INSTALLED!

Earlier I was using drivers which I had d/l'd directly from the HP site.

I've printed from Word with no issues.

Strange turn of events indeed?  :)  Ok so now that your printer seems to work again....how is your system running?

Computer is still running fine and printer is still working! Now that I was able to do a surface scan on the drive and cleaned up some bad files, I'm going to do a scan tonight and see what happens.

Yes. However I have not been able to run a scan yet. I tried last night but Windows Update circumvented me and the computer rebooted midway (I presume) and I was already sleeping. Will try again today.

Hi Jeff,

I guess we can call it good. I still can't do a scan but I suspect that I have a dying hard drive which I will need to replace soon-ish.

Thanks so much for all your help!!

:D

hi Jeff!

You are very kind. I hate to keep you from helping other people. Also, if it is a failing hard drive, I'm doubtful that there is much else you can help with.

You've been very generous with your time!
