I did the Java thing but I had a hard time finding the Java Control Panel. In my Control Panel it was under "View 32-bit Control Panel Items". Is this normal?

Hi,
Well it could be.....but IMHO....I would uninstall Java completely and not even use it unless you absolutely need it. There are so many security issues with it any more that I uninstalled it from all of my systems about 1 1/2 years ago with no change to my system experiences. Just a thought.
When you get the scan from ESET please post the log if one is made.

I don't know if you got my earlier message regarding the printer. Please see above.
Also, the ESET scanner locks up my computer and I have had this issue before.

No problem about ESET....just run a Full system scan with your antivirus and post a log if one is created.
We will come back to the printer in a bit. Let's be sure your system is clean first.

Hi Jeff,
I am experiencing some issues with running a 'Full Scan.'
I tired running a full scan with ESET, my antivirus (Avast!) and Malwarebytes and each of these locked up my computer.

Just use your regular antivirus program and boot to Safe Mode to run the scan and see what comes up.

Hi Jeff,
First of all...sorry about what a pain in the rear this is turning out to be!
I put the computer in safe mode. It got to about 97% of a full scan and then crashed. Did the whole chkdsk thing.
When I came back in regular mode, it said that my computer had just recovered from an unexpected crash (or something like that) and asked me to send in a report. Which I did. And got nothing back.
Should I try again?

Hi Jeff,
Same thing happened this morning. It got to 97%, and blue screen crashed. I did notice that at 97% it was still at 0 for infections found.
Let me know how to proceed.

Let's check and see what we can do about that.....
Download Windows Repair (all in one) from this site
Install and then run the program.
On the Start Repairs tab click Start
When the Repair Options screen populates, be sure to select all items and also check Restart System When Finished.
Now press Start

Once complete, run a Quick Scan with your antivirus and if that completes then try a Full Scan. Post any logs that are made.

Hi Jeff,
I did the Windows Repair, as per your directions.
I have not been able to run a quick scan or a full scan in either regular Windows or safe mode.
With the quick scan, I get to about 11% before it crashes my computer.

Hi there,
I don't believe this is malware related right now which is good. Let's see what we can get done here. Are you getting any error messages?
Do you have your Windows Vista CD or can you borrow one from a friend? If so, get it out as we may need this during the following steps:
The scan may take some time, so be patient. Windows will repair any corrupted or missing files that it finds. If information from the installation CD is needed to repair the problem, you may be prompted to insert your Windows Vista CD.
After you run System File Checker, reboot your system and try to run another full scan with your antivirus.
Let me know how that works.

Tried the fix. I have a log but it is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too large to attach here. Also tried pastebin...too large for there too.
