"Sponsorship" virus/longfintuna [Solved]

a new tab opens on its own sometimes, always titled 'sponsorship' and always this web address: http: //web. longfintuna.net/g/?z=1&ilmernzkvtazt=7CE9D31A4D61F046&pu=&s=D-chrome&nm=ilmernzkvtazt&t= sometimes is says the thing about the memory leak, sometimes it says other things. my netbook has always been slow, but it even slower now :( halp!

Hello veramitude,

1. Download Security Check by screen317 from here or here.
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

2. Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt.
    Note:These logs can be located in the OTL. folder on you C:\ drive if they fail to open automatically.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them both in.

3. Please download aswMBR.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click aswMBR.exe to start the tool. (Vista/Windows 7 users - right click to run as administrator)
  • Click Scan

  • Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post that log in your next reply for review.
    Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.
  • You will also notice another file created on the desktop named MBR.dat. Right click that file and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) file. Attach that zipped file in your next reply as well.

Hello veramitude,

1. Tweaking.com Registry Backup
  • Download the tool found here to your Desktop so it is easy to find.
  • Double click on the file you just downloaded to install it to your system.
  • Once the tool is installed, double-click on the Tweaking.com Registry Backup icon

    *Note:* The tool should automatically open to the Backup Registry     tab.
  • Press Backup Now
  • When the back up is complete, the tool will tell you that Successful */* Files Backed Up
  • You have now successfully backed up your Registry.

2. Run OTL.exe
  • Copy/paste the following text written inside of the code box into the Custom Scans/Fixes box located at the bottom of OTL

  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

the adware window is too large for my screen- i cannot see the top bar of the window or the bottom. And it minimizes when I try to go to full screen. Also, under "registry" tab , it shows 4 items that look safe from AVG safe search I don't think it's done running yet, it still says "pending" at the top.

Today the tab title changed from "sponsorship" to "attempt" and the page is a warning about low disk space. Also, the ADW cleaner window issue i mentionrd in my last post resolved in it's own.

nothing will be removed by AdwCleaner as this is just a scan. Please do it again.

  • right-click AdwCleaner.exe and select Run As Administrator.
  • Click on the Scan button.

    The actual line should say "Pending. Please uncheck elements you do not want to remove" => scan is complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button…a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
  • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it.
    If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

Run OTL again.
  • Double click on the OTL icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • don't check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check this time.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open a notepad window OTL.Txt.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the content of the file and post it with your next reply.
