Hi, I get Security Certificate Alerts almost everywhere I go. I check my bank balance online, I get: "site not trusted alert."
I look at Weatherbug app: I get similar grief. These alerts seen to come from sites I'm familier with and trust. I can't make sense out of the warning explanations, nor make warnings go away. What's up? Am I vulnerable to attack? Thanks for any help on this.

I'm running Norton and otherwise all seems ok.[external image: Posted Image]

Hi there,
my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems.

Before we move on, please read the following points carefully.
  • First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding.
  • Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one.
  • If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem.
  • Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me.
  • Post all logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.
  • Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean.
  • My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.

Scan with DDS

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or
here.

Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.

When done, DDS will open two (2) logs

DDS.txt: save to your desktop then post its contents in your topic
Attach.txt: save to your desktop then attach it to your next reply

Scan with Gmer rootkit scanner

Please download Gmer from here by clicking on the "Download EXE" Button.
  • Double click on the randomly named GMER.exe. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent.
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan…click on NO.
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following …
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Show All ( should be unchecked by default )
  • Leave everything else as it is.
  • Close all other running programs as well as your Browser.
  • Click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the Save.. button, and in the File name area, type in "ark.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop.
  • Please post the content of the ark.txt here.
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<— ROOKIT" entries
Hi Marius, Thank you for looking at this. I am including DDS.txt and Attach.txt .
I did not include "ark.txt" because I could not complete the "Gmer rootkit scanner". I attempted to run it twice. Each time it ran for 20 minutes but my computer crashed each time with windows blue screen📎attach.txt.

OK, then run the following tool instead and don´t forget to attach the attacht.txt created by DDS to your reply:

Scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from here Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit and save it to your desktop.

Be sure to print out and follow the instructions provided on that same page.

Caution: This is a beta version so please be sure to read the disclaimer and back up any important data before using.

  • Double click the mbar.zip file to open it, then 'Extract all files'.
  • Double click the mbar folder to open it, then double click mbar.exe to start the tool.
Check for Updates, then Scan your system for malware

If malware is found, do NOT press the Cleanup button yet. Click EXIT.

I'd like to see the log first so I can see what it sees. You'll find the log in that mbar folder as MBAR-log-[date and time]***.txt . Please attach that to your next reply.
📎mbar_log_2013_09_05__09_33_08_.txt OK, 1. I had attached "attach.txt" created by DDS in yesterday's reply. It is at the end of my message text. I will run and send it again if you wish. 2. I completed update and running Scan of Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit. It took so long I thought it was hung but it finished and reported (2) TWO malwares. Here, I have attached the log. Jim
Fix with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit

Run another scan with mbar.exe and click the CleanUp button. It will require a reboot.

When it has rebooted, run another scan with mbar.exe and click CleanUp again if necessary.

Send the mbar-log.txt along with an update on machine behavior.

Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT- Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

====================================================

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications as they will interfere with our tools and the removal. If you are unsure how to do this, please refer to our sticky topic How to disable your security applications

====================================================

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.
Greetings,
I ran mbar.exe and CleanUp and it cleared the two malware detections seen in the scan.
I rebooted my machine. I ran yet another scan with mbar.exe, It reported no malware errors.
mbar-log.txt is attached.
📎mbar_log_2013_09_06__12_21_09_.txt
I ran ComboFix.exe and have attached the log: ComboFix.txt
📎ComboFix.txt
My machines behavior:
There is some improvement. I no longer receive the warning such as: "Security Alert"
"This page requires a secure connection which includes server authentication……….!!" as displayed on "weatherbug"
app in my first message at beginning of this string.
I still have the same problem with https: "Site Security Cert. Not Trusted….!" but only when I go to the "LCU" bank
site such as the one pictured when I began this string. I'm using Google browser and a get similar warning with
Windows Explorer browser. I do not get the warning on another machine.
I'm able to successfully open other https: security sensitive sites without issue.
Thank you, Jim
Hi, I must change my machine behavior answer. I still get both security warnings on the two (2) web sites I describe at the beginning of this string. The situation is improved in that I don't get alerts "almost everywhere I go" as I said earlier. thanks.
Please download FindAWF to your Desktop.

Combofix scripting

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Download the attached CFScript.txt and save it to the location where Combofix is.

[external image: Posted Image]

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Full System Scan with Malwarebytes Antimalware

  • If not existing, please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.

If the program is already installed:
  • Run Malwarebytes Antimalware
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform fullscan, place a checkmark on all hard drives, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
  • Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
  • Post that log back here.

Scan with Farbar´s Service Scanner

Please download Farbar Service Scanner and run it on the computer with the issue.
  • Make sure the following options are checked:
    • Internet Services
    • Windows Firewall
    • System Restore
    • Security Center
    • Windows Update
    • Windows Defender
  • Press "Scan".
  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Marius,
- I pasted ComboFix.txt here and also Mbam log. txt .
- Mbam found 31 problems and I deleted all according to instruction.
- I was not able to download Farber Service Scanner because it was not allowed by my Norton virus protection software.
I received warnings the download was not safe. I could not find a safe alternative site for the FSS download.

After I deleted the Mbam 31 "detected items" I rebooted as requested, but notice I am still receiving the same "site not trusted alerts".
Thanks, Jim
