Hello, I am having issues using Citi websites and get errors. I thought it was Java, but uninstalled and reinstalled and no luck. Tech guys for Citi were no help. I was able to use my Kindle to access Citi cites, so its something with my home PC as neither IE or Firefox work... I am able to use other credit cards, banking, mortgage sites with no problems, just Citi is the issue... All assistance is greatly appreciated! Thanks, mstein66

Hi mstein66, Sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing. Unfortunately you have not given us much to go on.... details of operating system details of computer details of method of Internet connection, details (URL) of exact website you are having difficulty with details of error codes being displayed ( screen shots/dumps are always helpful) detailed description of the "issues" experienced are all helpful in enabling someone to respond. Some of us are maybe many thousands of miles away from your computer screen, so we have to rely on you for detailed descriptions of exactly what you are seeing on your screen and how your computer reacts, so we can try and formulate a helpful reply In the meantime have you tried to? 1 flush your DNS resolver cache 2 release and renew your lease (via ipconfig) 3 allow access through your firewall 4 temporarily disable any protection policies you're employing 5 Allow the website concerned into your "trusted sites" 6 Make sure you are not blocking access (via "Restricted Sites") 7 Power cycle your modem/router/WAP and close down and then restart your computer. 8 Boot into safe mode with networking, and see if the problem persists, be careful as your protections will not be effective in this mode) 9 set up a new user account with administrative privileges and see if that account can access correctl,y the URL you require. Post back with the details and one of us will do our best to help Regards paws

How does it behave if you boot to Safe Mode with Networking? If better then something is starting at boot that is causing the problem.

Advanced startup options - XP
Advanced startup options - Vista
Advanced startup options - Windows 7

Use msconfig to determine what is causing the problem

These are good tutorials on using msconfig in XP, Vista or Windows 7:
How to use msconfig in Windows XP
How to use msconfig in Windows Vista
How to use msconfig in Windows 7 and Windows 8

Click on Start then Run, type msconfig and press Enter.
Click on the Startup tab (for Windows 8, the Startup tab has a link to open Task Manager/Startup tab. Use that.), record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Reboot and see if it runs better.
If yes then use msconfig to enable several items at a time till you find the culprit.

If no, start msconfig and click on the Services tab.
Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Again, do a regular boot, see if it runs normal.
If yes then use msconfig to enable services till you find the culprit.

Once you've found the culprit, uninstall it or find out how to eliminate it from your system. Simply disabling it in msconfig is a temporary fix at best.
Enable everything else you disabled.

Okay, I am in safe mode now and no change. I disabled the Startup tab and no change. Same goes with the Services tab. Did both as well and no change. I also notice that my printer is not connecting to my PC as well when trying to scan a doc to save to my PC and my connection is slow and I tried to repair but cannot continue due to clearing the DNS Cache. Again, something is blocking certain sites, and slowing connection and I think it affecting the Host file. I tried restoring a past backup Host, but this didn't work... I have no clue!!! Another thing -- not able to do system restore... I even tried using my erunt restore software and no luck!

Let's see what Farbar tells us:

Download here: FarBar MiniToolBox
  • Run MiniToolBox.exe (no install required).
  • Check the following boxes:
    • Flush DNS
    • Report IE Proxy Settings
    • Reset IE Proxy Settings
    • Report FF Proxy Settings
    • Reset FF Proxy Settings
    • List content of Hosts
    • List IP configuration
    • List Winsock Entries
    • List last 10 Event Viewer log
    • List Installed Programs
    • List Devices (Only Problems)
    • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
    • List Minidump Files
    • List Restore Points
  • Click OK
.A Notepad window will open with the results in it. Copy and paste all the data except the User info in a reply here.
A file named Result.txt will also be created in the directory MiniToolBox.exe is run from.

Hi,

I ran a MS fix tool program to resort back to the original HOST and that fixed the webpages I was having issues with accessing. But I notice within the folder were the HOST is located that there are several backups, and other one and wanted to know if I am able to delete these (see attached)?

I am having issues with updating Adobe Air.

My printer software (ControlCenter3) has stopped working; so I uninstalled and reinstalled the software that I got from the Brother website, but still not working.

I still ran the program you provided and not sure of these programs:
Data Access Objects (DAO) 3.5
Elevated Installer (Version: 2.1.12)
swMSM (Version: 12.0.0.1)
WebFldrs XP (Version: 9.50.7523)

But the results are as follows:
MiniToolBox by Farbar Version: 13-07-2013
Ran by Administrator (administrator) on 31-08-2013 at 12:17:18
Running from "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop"
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (X86)
Boot Mode: Normal

You can delete the backups. I didn't see anything in the Farbar report to be concerned about. Some errors in Event Viewer but that's always the case. For the 4 programs you mentioned, try doing Google searches. They all look like they are valid to me.

What happens when you try to start CC3? Try starting it again then check Event Viewer, see if anything is logged that helps identify the problem.

When I start the program, the image appears and then disappears and nothing. Doesn't show in task bar, but does show appearing and then disappearing from task manager.

I was hoping for something specific to CC3. What Google programs do you have installed? Check Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Uninstall all of them. See if that helps.

Ya, I have Google Talk Plugin; uninstalled an reinstalled -- but CC3 still will not open; just show like it's going to open and then disappears...
