Is this the problem you have now?

You malware thread is very long so I may have missed something.
no that only happened the once, the problems im having havent changed from first posting (although checked the webcam last night and that is working).
THESE ARE ALL THE NOTES FROM THE OTHER FORUM ABOUT THE PROBLEMS: as soon as the virus hit, i had avira on my system, it blocked it initially then the virus killed avira. also at the same time an update to windows defender failed. now windows defender wont open at all, it gives an error of 0x800106ba but none of the fixes on microsofts site will repair it. ive tried to do a system restore, but since i was last on this site, my memory for restore points is very small and the oldest restore point was this morning, i tried to restore to that, but it failed with an unknown error. problems with java, it wont install properly. uninstalled it numerous times now and run java fix, but get an error message GetDefaultBrowserError :2 my system is still freezing, have had to reboot system again. also have had to add java back on cos some things i needed to view would only work with it, and the same error came up on installation. either internet explorer siezes up or the whole system does when im on the internet. i have to reboot. with regards to the java error, no idea what problems it causes, just that the error is mentioned when ive installed it on the system. also java just tried to update and it couldnt! ie is getting lots worse. it siezes up a few times an evening now, if i have more than one tab open i either cant access one of them or both as its siezed and have to open a new ie window. i was getting a warning when i open ie 'stop running this script - a script on this page is causing ie to run slowly, if it continues to run your computer might become unresponsive' but not had it a few days now.
You have many different problems from what I read. I think you should backup your data then try a Repair install. If that doesn't fix the problem then do a Clean install (with format).

I know it's painful and takes awhile but with the state you are in now It is the best path to take.

How to Do a Clean Install and Setup with a Full Version of Vista
How to Do a Clean Install with a Upgrade Version of Vista

A Repair install leaves your data intact and most programs. A Clean install wipes the drive so you start from scratch.

If you do not have a Windows Vista installation DVD, you can download a legal copy with SP1 integrated from here:

Download Official Windows Vista RTM with SP1 Setup Files (32-bit and 64-bit).

Only Windows Vista Ultimate with SP1 (X64 or X86) download is available, but if, during the install, you do not enter the product key
when initially prompted for it (which you must have to use the download), then you will be prompted to select the version of Vista you
want to install. You can activate once the install is done.

You do need a valid installation key, which should be on the COA sticker on the computer, to activate the installation.

Windows Vista Home Basic
Windows Vista Home Premium
Windows Vista Business
Windows Vista Ultimate

Downloaded the Vista X64 or X86 files.

X64:
install.wim
boot.wim
X14-63453.exe

X86:
install.wim
boot.wim
X14-63452.exe

Double clicked on X14-63453.exe or X14-63452.exe. It extractes all the files into a Vista sub-folder.

Downloaded Windows Bootable Image Creator zip then extract the files to a folder:

Open the folder and run WBICreator.exe
Click Next
Select OS Type: Windows Vista
CD/DVD Label: VistaX64 or VistaX86
Setup Location: The Vista folder created when you double clicked on X14-63453.exe or X14-63452.exe.
Output Path: Somewhere with enough free space to hold the .iso file that will be created (X64 = 3,837,112KB, X86 = 3,013,816KB).
Click GO.

When done a VistaX64.iso or VistaX86.iso file will be created in the Output Path you chose.

You can use the .iso as input to a burner program like ImgBurn to create a Vista Install DVD, or you can use it as Input to
Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3 to create a Vista install flash drive.

I created a X86 flash drive and used it to install a clean copy of Vista Home Basic on my HP DV2200 Laptop. Worked great using the key on the COA sticker of the laptop.

Remember to use the X64 or X86 version of Vista you currently have.

Note: You may need to download drivers for the computer from the manufacturers web site so I would suggest getting the Network (LAN and Wireless) and video/VGA drivers ahead of time so you can install them as soon as you finish installing Vista.
Not sure what you don't understand as it's pretty specific. If you can ask questions about what you don't understand then maybe I can clarify but as it is right now, I don't know what else I can add to make it clearer. What don't you understand? Let's start there.

A Repair install leaves your data intact and most programs.

what is a repair install and what programs doesnt it leave intact?
I don't know what programs will be left. I do know anti-virus and firewall will have to be reinstalled.

Even if you decide to do a repair install, please backup your data first. 99% of the time it will go cleanly and do exactly what it's supposed to do. It's that 1% that gets you. Remember Murphy's law!
its going to take a while then for me to sort out doing a system back up as ive never done it before, so please bear with me as its a very busy time for me. is it a cd or dvd that i need for it? thanks
Take as long as you need. You can create a DVD or a bootable flash drive (my recommendation) from the Vista you download. Instructions are in the link I gave you. To backup your data, I would recommend using a flash drive but you can backup to DVD instead, it depends on how much data you have to backup. The3 best method is to do a image backup but that requires you to have or buy and external hard drive.
whats a flash drive? i dont have tonnes of data. whats the difference between an image back up and any other type of back up? i really have no idea about any of this. dont have funds to by any external hardware!
A image backup makes a bit for bit copy of your hard drive to another drive, usually and external hard drive.

Backing up your data means just that, backup your own personal data, like documents, pictures, movies, music, videos, whatever you don't want to lose.

A flash drive is a small device you plug into a USB port that you can copy data to or from. Here are some examples:

Amazon.com USB Flash Drives

I just bought 4 16GB flash drives from Staples for $8 each.

1 16GB flash drive would probably be enough for you.
apparently im being chased to respond to this message. i did ask to bear with me whilst i get round to doing a back-up disk. first of all ive never done one before so not sure what im doing but im also extremely busy setting up a business and everything is on the pc, so i need to wait for a time when i have input all information on word and then back it up. so please bear with me and i will respond once i get a break in my workload. thanks
