Click on the Start button and in the Search programs and files box type the following:
command
Don't press Enter, just let the search results populate above.
In the search results, locate the Programs section.
Locate the Command Prompt shortcut and right-click on it.
Select Run as administrator.
Click Yes on the User Account Control window that appears.
Important: If you are see a User Account Control window but also a message that says To continue, type an administrator password, and then click Yes, then your user account must be a standard account, not an administrator account. There are quite a few of these, please work through them and see if it changes anything with the updates. We may have tried some of these steps already but humor me and try again.
4. In the Control Panel > Programs and Features, then click on Installed Updates and see if those offending updates are there, and if so, I would uninstall them, reboot and run Windows Update again.
Hi OCD
I haven't run the Clean Boot yet. All the others had no effect.
The malicious software removal tool showed no problems.
Question about the Clean Boot:
under the windows 7 instructions, do I need to disable Microsoft services - step 4? The instructions for step 4 are ambiguous, especially the note is confusing and worrying.
If not, let's see if we can remove the updates, then see if they will download again.
1.Uninstall via Programs and Features
Click Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features. Click View Installed Updates then locate and select the following that are present on the list and click the Uninstall button:
Windows 7 for x64 based systems (KB2829361)
Windows 7 for x64 based systems (KB2813956)

2.Reboot

3Windows Update
Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button [external image: Posted Image]. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.
In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
If you see a message telling you that important updates are available, or telling you to review important updates, click the message to view and select the important updates to install.
In the list, click the important updates for more information. Select the check boxes for any updates that you want to install, and then click OK.
Click Install updates.
Read and accept the license terms, and then click Finish if the update requires it. [external image: Posted Image] Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
You are very welcome. We all get tied up with our worldly commitments from time to time, that's why we try and be flexible.
I have re-opened the thread, if you have any questions please post them in the thread. We ask that you do this because this way the information is available to all to access. If we handle questions via PM then everyone doesn't have the benefit of the Q & A.
