Hi I've been blocked out by a virus showing police e-crime unit and demanding cash. I'm running Windows Vista, 32 bit OS. I have another user account on the same PC which is still ok. I can also log in via safe mode. How can I fix this? Thanks for your help
Hello PeterWS11 and welcome to the WTT forum.

My name is Satchfan and I would be glad to help you with your computer problem.

Please read the following guidelines which will help to make cleaning your machine easier:
  • please follow all instructions in the order posted
  • please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear
  • all logs/reports, etc. must be posted in Notepad. Please ensure that word wrap is unchecked. In Notepad click Format, uncheck Word wrap if it is checked
  • if you don't understand something, please don't hesitate to ask for clarification before proceeding
  • the fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • please reply within 3 days. If you do not reply within this period I will post a reminder but topics with no reply in 4 days will be closed!
IMPORTANT:

Please DO NOT install/uninstall any programs unless asked to.
Please DO NOT run any scans other than those requested

===================================================

Run RogueKiller

IMPORTANT: Please remove any usb or external drives from the computer before you run this scan!

Close all running programs.

Download one of these to your desktop:

for a 32-bt system download this version.
for 64-bit use this one

.
  • close all running programs
  • for Windows Vista/Seven, right click -> run as administrator, for XP simply double-click on RogueKiller.exe
  • when the pre-scan is finished, click on Scan
  • click on Report and copy/paste the content in your next post
  • NOTE: DO NOT attempt to remove anything that the scan detects –everything that is reported is not necessarily bad
If the program is blocked, continue to try it several times. If it still doesn’t work, (it could happen), rename it to winlogon.exe.
Please post the contents of the RKreport.txt in your next reply.

Satchfan
Thanks for your help. I've run it and here is the report:

Please do another scan with RogueKiller.

When it shows the results, check all the boxes next to the ZeroAccess detections then click on Delete. Post the log it produces.

======================================================

Please run these in the order requested.

Run TDSSKiller

Please download TDSSKiller.zip
  • extract it to your desktop
  • double click TDSSKiller.exe
  • press Start Scan

    only if Malicious objects are found then ensure Cure is selected. Do not change it to Delete or Quarantine as it may delete infected files that are required for Windows to operate properly.

  • click Continue > Reboot now

  • copy and paste the log in your next reply
  • a copy of the log will be saved automatically to the root of the drive (typically C:\) called TDSSKiller_*** (*** denotes version & date)

======================================================

Download and run ComboFix

Download Combofix from either of the links below, and save it to your desktop.

Link 1
Link 2

**Note: It MUST be saved directly to your desktop. Choose save as and then make sure you choose Desktop

——————————————————————–

IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

——————————————————————–

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • when finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • please post the C:\ComboFix.txt for further review.

I've had real problems running Combofix. I disabled the Norton virus from the user account which doesn't have the virus (Jane) as I couldn't do it in safe mode from the infected account (Peter). When I tried to run combofix from the infected account it said I still had virus check on. I then went to the healthy account and disabled the firewall as well. When I went back to the infected account it would no longer let me use it in safe mode. I just get the virus ecrime screen. I used the healthy user account to run combofix which was on the infected user desktop. It said a few errors about administrator access (although both user accounts are administrators).
Here is the report:

Thanks for the logs. Things are looking better but there is still work to be done.

Open ComboFix

Please do the following:
  • close any open browsers.
  • close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so that they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  • open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:
File::
c:\programdata\ejz6hr.js

Folder::
c:\users\Peter\AppData\Local\temp
c:\users\Default\AppData\Local\temp
c:\users\Jane\AppData\Local\temp

Save this as "CFScript.txt", and as Type: All Files (*.*) in the same location as ComboFix.exe

[external image: Posted Image]

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it produces a log at C:\ComboFix.txt. Post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply.

================================================

Please run RogueKiller again and post the new log.

Thanks

Satchfan
I tried to disable Norton again by right clicking on the Norton icon in the system tray. I get these two options, 📎disable_norton.jpg. I disabled both firewall and auto protect. When I went in to the infected account in safe mode I ran Combofix (with the file you sent ) it said a few things I couldn't do as I wasn't administrator and also antispyware from Norton was on.

Anyway here is the resulting report:

When I ran combofix it says I have norton on still. The only way I can disable it is to use the healthy account in normal mode. I then have to reboot in safe mode and use the infected account. I can't disable it in safe mode. Anyway here is the report:
