Hi, Re: Police Central e-Crime Unit No doubt very similar to many other threads I would welcome advice and support to remove Cybercrime Virus from a laptop. I'm using another pc to browse the web now to find possible solutions. My initial steps was to use tips found on the web (2-viruses.com), and the steps they advised was to :- 1. Reboot your computer and press F8 by the time it’s booting 2. Choose Safe Mode with Networking 3. Launch MSConfig 4. Disable startup items rundll32 launching something from Application Data 5. Reboot once again. Cybercrime Investigation Department virus should not load anymore. 6. Download I found that disabling two (rundll32) exe files in the start up actually prevented the re-occurrence of the locking virus ‘Police Central e-Crime Unit’, and since having the operating system back again I did a full Norton antivirus scan. I however note that in the startup the two rundll32 files are still present and when enabled the virus locking screen appears again (so I’ve not got rid of it yet – right?) I've seen the guidelines and the advice to download reports with this log, however, before doing so I wanted to check if there are any other steps i should follow if I'm to use the PC i'm on now (not wanting to infect this one to!) or is it best to use the infected laptop? I’m operating Vista Home premium SP2 32 bit Also, even though ive a current version of Norton AV, should I be adding using other products in addition to Norton for greater protection to avoid a repeat? Any help will be appreciated. Many thanks in advance
Welcome to the forum.

Can you get online with the infected one?

If so……..

Please remove any usb or external drives from the computer before you run this scan!

Please download and run RogueKiller to your desktop.

Quit all running programs.

For Windows XP, double-click to start.
For Vista or Windows 7, do a right-click on the program, select Run as Administrator to start, & when prompted Allow to run.

Click Scan to scan the system.
When the scan completes > Close out the program > Don't Fix anything!

Don't run any other options, they're not all bad!!!!!!!

Post back the report which should be located on your desktop.

MrC

I downloaded Roguekiller and followed 'run as administrator. Shortly after clicking Scan it stopped, with error message "Rogue Killer has stopped working; A problem casued the program to stop working correclty. Windows will close ….notify you if a solution is available. I note that if i try and re-open Rogue killer it claims its still running, yet the window box has been closed down. I note a folder icon on the desk top and debug.txt file is now in there. Is this the data log you need?
Do this instead……….

Please download OTL from one of the links below:
http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe
http://www.itxassociates.com/OT-Tools/OTL.exe
http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.com (<—renamed version)

Save it to your desktop.
Double click on the icon on your desktop.
Click the Scan All Users checkbox.
Push the Quick Scan button.

The scan will take about 10 minutes…depends on your hard drive size.

Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here: (or attach them as .txt files)
OTL.txt <– Will be opened
Extra.txt <– Will be minimized

MrC
Just scan this one:
C:\Users\David\14467485.exe

These are malware: If you can right click on them and delete them..please do.
C:\ProgramData\58476441.pad
C:\ProgramData\58476441.js

MrC
MrC, Before downloading Malwarebytes, Norton detected the exe file and quarantined it - file no longer in the c: folder. Installed Malwarebytes, quick scan report log provided below. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.70.0.1100 www.malwarebytes.org Database version: v2013.01.29.10 Windows Vista Service Pack 2 x86 NTFS Internet Explorer 9.0.8112.16421 David :: DAVID-PC [administrator] 29/01/2013 21:12:17 mbam-log-2013-01-29 (21-12-17).txt Scan type: Quick scan Scan options enabled: Memory | Startup | Registry | File System | Heuristics/Extra | Heuristics/Shuriken | PUP | PUM Scan options disabled: P2P Objects scanned: 202617 Time elapsed: 8 minute(s), 10 second(s) Memory Processes Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Folders Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Files Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) (end)
MrC, thank you once again, I'm very grateful for all your help. I guess i'd welcome your confirmation that everything is now sorted. Should I delete (rightclick/delete) the downloaded programmes - Hijackthis, rogue killer, OTL ? Just to let you know, Norton Quarantined roguekiller (suspicious.cloud.7.ep) - not sure if this is relevant, although the exe file is still in C: download folder one final quesiton - I've another pc only using Norton Internet Security - is it worth installing Malwarebytes as well? Your help has been very much appreciated and i will update my paypal to show my appreciation. Thanks in advance of any further comments.
