Hi guys,

My computer turn into blue screen several times because of this "Win32/Small.CA".
I'm suspected this based on the message from Windows action centre asking me to "Remove the Win32/Small.CA virus"
It's also slow down my internet connection badly.

please help.

Hello fulladd,

My name is OCD. I would be more than happy to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems you might have. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and know that I am working hard to get you a clean and functional system back in your hands. I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

Please be advised, as I am still in training, all my replies to you will be checked for accuracy by one of our experts to ensure that I am giving you the best possible advice, this will be a team effort. This may cause a delay, but I will do my best to keep it as short as possible. Please bear with me, I will post back to you as soon as I can.
  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
IMPORTANT NOTE : Please do not delete, download or install anything unless instructed to do so.

DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix or HijackThis fixes without supervision. Doing so could make your system inoperable and could require a full reinstall of your Operating System and losing all your programs and data.

Important Note for Vista and Windows 7 users:

These tools MUST be run from the executable.(.exe) every time you run them with Admin Rights (Right click, choose "Run as Administrator")

Please stay with this topic until I let you know that your system appears to be "All Clear"
Hi fulladd,

Download OTL to your desktop.

Right click and select "Run as Administrator".
  • Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Under Custom Scan paste this in

    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    explorer.exe
    winlogon.exe
    Userinit.exe
    svchost.exe
    services.exe
    /md5stop
    DRIVES
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
    BASESERVICES

  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt.
Note:These logs can be located in the OTL. folder on you C:\ drive if they fail to open automatically.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them both in.
Next

Download aswMBR.exe and save it to your desktop.

Right click and select "Run as Administrator".
  • When asked if you want to download Avast's virus definitions please select Yes.
  • Click Scan
  • Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post that log in your next reply for review. Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.
  • You will also notice another file created on the desktop named MBR.dat. Right click that file and select Send To>Compressed (zipped) file. Attach that zipped file in your next reply as well.
In your next post please provide the following:
  • OTL.txt
  • Extras.txt
  • aswMBR log

Hi fulladd,

You stated that Windows Action Centre is asking you to "Remove the Win32/Small.CA virus". Can you please tell me what file it is reporting as being infected?

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Download the GMER Rootkit Scanner. Unzip it to your Desktop.

Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.

Right click GMER.exe and select "Run as Administrator" The program will begin to run.
[external image: Posted Image]
**Caution**
These types of scans can produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any
"<— ROOKIT" entries unless advised!

If possible rootkit activity is found, you will be asked if you would like to perform a full scan.
  • Click NO
  • In the right panel, you will see a bunch of boxes that have been checked … leave everything checked and ensure the Show all box is un-checked.
  • Now click the Scan button.
Once the scan is complete, you may receive another notice about rootkit activity.
  • Click OK.
  • GMER will produce a log. Click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "GMER.txt"
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop.
In your next post please provide the following:
  • What is the infected file name?
  • Gmer.txt
Hi, OCD,

1) Yes, Windows Action Centre is asking me to "Remove the Win32/Small.CA virus" as per below image.
📎Remove_the_virus_from_your_PC.jpg

Honestly I dont know what file it is reporting as being infected because nothing was detected when scan using "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware"

2) Below is the result from "Gmer.txt";

Hi fulladd,

I have a few questions:
  • When did the blue screen issue first begin?
  • Have you installed any new hardware recently?
  • Added any memory (RAM)?
  • Installed any new software?
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

In the Windows Action Center, under the Messages Details there is an Additional Info section. Please click on that and see if there is more information about the Win32/Small.CA virus.

Next

Please delete the copy of Gmer you currently have, reboot, then download a fresh copy and run a new scan.
(refer to the instructions in previous post)

Next

Please run Eset Online Scanner

Administrator rights are required to run ESET Online Scanner
  • Place a check mark in the box YES, I accept the Terms Of Use
  • Click the Start button.
  • Now click the Install button.
  • Click Start. The scanner engine will initialize and update.
  • Do Not place a check mark in the box beside Remove found threats.
  • Click the Scan button. The scan will now run, please be patient.
  • When the scan finishes click the Details tab.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the C:\Program Files\ESET\log.txt into your next reply.
In your next post please provide the following:
  • Answers to the questions presented.
  • Windows Action Center information about the virus
  • Gmer.txt
  • ESET's log.txt
Hi, OCD, 1) Honestly I cannot remember when the blue screen issue first begin. Believed it's almost a month now. 2) No new hardware installed recently. 3) No added any new memory (RAM). I do open and re-place RAM back previously try to solve the blue screen. 4) Yes, I've Installed lots of new software. I've notice the blue screen appears and occurs after i've installed "TuneUp Utilities 2013" with crack. Thus i've uninstall it back. Sadly the blue scrren wont disappear and Windows Action Centre keep asking me to "Remove the Win32/Small.CA virus" 5) Kindky refer below image for details from Messages Details; 📎Action_center.jpg

HI, OCD, Until this moment i'm unable to scan this computer using "Eset Online Scanner". I've try so many time. Re install after restart but the same problem occur. This computer will turn to blue screen so many times and sometime the "window explorer" not working.
Hi fulladd,

P2P - I see you have/had P2P software uTorrent installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections and possibly Identity Theft. It likely contributed to your current situation. This page will give you further information.

Please note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P file-sharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

I strongly suggest you remove the following P2P program.

Click Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features. Locate and select the following that are present on the list and click the Remove button:
  • uTorrent
If you choose to not remove these programs please refrain from using them until we have finished cleaning your computer.

Aside from the dangers of using P2P programs, it is against the law to have/use cracked software that has not be obtained legally. Therefore, I must insist that you uninstall the cracked software or I will be unable to assist you further.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

3) No added any new memory (RAM). I do open and re-place RAM back previously try to solve the blue screen.

Could you please clarify this statement?
  • Did you mean you removed the existing RAM modules and then reinstalled the same RAM modules?
  • Or did you remove the existing RAM modules and replace them with different RAM modules?

    • command
  • Don't press Enter, just let the search results populate above.
  • In the search results, locate the Programs section.
  • Locate the Command Prompt shortcut and right-click on it.
  • Select Run as administrator.

  • Note: You will not see this window at all if your User Account Control settings are turned all the way down. See How To Disable User Account Control in Windows 7 for more information.
  • An elevated Command Prompt window will appear.

    • Type: sfc /scannow (There's a space between sfc and /scannow.)
  • Type: exit to close the command prompt window
  • Include the findings in your next reply
In your next post please provide the following:
  • ComboFix log (if available)
  • Findings from the SFC scan
  • Any change in computer's performance?
