While updating my drivers I ran the following file, thinking it was a driver update.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar…96&sw_lang=

It ran and an error message came up (I forgot and didn't save what it was) I closed it and windows tells me that the program didn't install properly.
After that the following issues started happening
  • Firefox downloads .exe files fine. Then when I go to run them It says the file is corrupted.
  • IE also downloads .exe files as "unsafe". When I run them I also get an error message saying they're corrupted.
  • Firefox loads certain images wierd.

[Example uploaded is an image from a website I cropped]
  • Programs will sometimes start to "hang" for a few seconds
  • A certain facebook game will load then go to a white screen (Happens in IE and Firefox) OR move itself to the left and freeze (Only happens in Firefox).
  • Downloaded computer games either encounter a runtime error, crash while trying to log in/load a map, or load the map fine and act like I'm disconnected from the server.

Things I've tried to do to solve this were
  • Run System File Check in cmd
  • Run Check Disk command in cmd
  • Uninstall and reinstall flash
  • Uninstall and reinstall my wireless driver
  • Clean up Firefox and IE completely using CCleaner
  • Uninstall and reinstall Firefox
  • Redownload the files
  • Get new copies of the files
  • Reset BIOS to factory defaults
  • Scan for viruses,Microsoft Essentials and Malware Bytes found 0 threats

I don't have any earlier system restore points.
I was told to try and reinstall my BIOS,but I'm not sure if I should do that since the laptop isn't "bricked".
It runs and boots fine, it's just the following issues happening.

The computer experiencing these issues is a Compaq Presario CQ57-489WM Notebook PC that runs Windows 7 SP 1 64 bit.
If this was my computer I would try a Repair Install first since you are able to boot into Windows 7.

If that doesn't fix the problem then I would download the BIOS update again and try to install it. Maybe this time it will complete successfully.
I'm trying to reinstall windows, but after it checks for compatibility issues I get the following error message Application popup: setup.exe - Entry Point Not Found : The procedure entry point !÷ could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll.
Sounds like a defective install DVD. Is this a commercial DVD or one you burned?

Try this: You can download a legal copy with SP1 integrated from here: Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River.
Make sure you get the same version you have, Home Premium, Pro or Ultimate and 32 or 64 bit. Note that Basic or Starter is not available.

I recommend using ImgBurn at 4X speed (or the slowest available) to create the DVD from the downloaded .iso file.

You can do this on any computer capable of burning a DVD.

For techies or folks who work on computers: Create Windows 7 Universal ISO With All Editions Selection On Install with ei.cfg Removal Utility.
This will fit on a 6GB flash drive or can be burned to a DVD.
I re-downloaded the iso file and it installed windows 7 successfully. I don't really need the BIOS update, and after repairing Windows 7 I'm still experiencing the same issues as before (except it's even laggier). Is it possible to just fix my BIOS back to it's original state?
The only way you can put the BIOS back to it's original state is to download and apply the BIOS update at that level. There is no restore built into computer BIOS. You're computer may not be bricked but it certainly is not working right, so other than applying the latest BIOS update I can't think of anything else you can do to fix this.

Is this different from "flashing" the BIOS? I can't find an exact set of instructions to do this.
And what would happen if I updated the BIOS with a slightly newer version?
I currently have Hewlett-Packard F.43,12/13/2011 but the HP website only has F.43 1/6/2012,and it says I shouldn't use BIOS from the motherboard manufacturer's website.
Would trying to update my BIOS using the 1/6/2012 version work in trying to get it to it's original(Or close to) state?

Try this BIOS link for your Compaq Presario CQ57-489WM Notebook

The old fashioned manual way of 'flashing the bios' should not be needed. The Hewart-Packard support link should do it for you.

There should be nothing wrong with upgrading to the latest BIOS, but there are three choices on that link page.

A slight update. I updated to the latest version of my BIOS (The F.43 1/6/12) and it didn't fix anything. After multiple calls and tech chat help sessions I decided to simply reset my notebook to it's factory defaults using Minimized System Recovery. I noticed that all of my issues seemed to be fixed (except for the lagging, but that seems to be something else). Some of my windows updates didn't install but that was fixed after a reboot. When I updated my network driver and installed a few windows updates, the issues started happening again.
I had a strong feeling that the problems you were initially having had nothing to do with your BIOS (comp. problems rarely are a BIOS issue) and that it was a driver problem. Try rolling back your your network driver and if it works OK, there was is no need to 'fix it' with the latest update.
I rolled it back. The issues I was having have stopped but I'm currently having issues with it disconnecting alot. I don't think it's my router since other computers and laptops in the house connect fine without disconnecting issues…
