Win32.Muollo [Solved]

After restarting my computer following an iTunes update, a TeaTimer window said it detected and stopped a Win32.Muollo trojan. Spybot, Malwarebytes and Microsoft's antivirus programs came up clean but my computer began acting weird, asking for a lot of registry changes. Spybot also seemed to act a bit strange. I ran Combofix and the log came up with:

So, my question is, am I in the clear and paranoid for nothing.
Hi and Welcome!! :) My name is Jeff. I would be more than happy to take a look at your malware results logs and help you with solving any malware problems you might have. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and know that I am working hard to get you a clean and functional system back in your hands. I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

IMPORTANT NOTE : Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.
DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix or HijackThis fixes without supervision.
Doing so could make your system inoperable and could require a full reinstall of your OS losing all your programs and data.

Vista and Windows 7 users:
These tools MUST be run from the executable (.exe) every time you run them
with Admin Rights (Right click, choose "Run as Administrator")

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.
———

Let's get a look at your system…

Please download DDS from either of these links

LINK 1
LINK 2

and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Right-click and Run as Administrator dds to run the tool.
  • When done, two DDS.txt's will open.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————
Please include the contents of the following in your next reply:

DDS.txt

Attach.txt
———-

Please download aswMBR to your desktop.

  • Double click the aswMBR icon to run it.
  • Click the Scan button to start scan.
  • If you are asked to update the Avast Virus database please allow it to do so.
  • When it finishes, press the save log button, save the logfile to your desktop and attach its contents in your next reply.

[external image: Posted Image]
Click the image to enlarge it
———-

AdwCleaner

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Search.
  • A logfile will automatically open after the scan has finished.
  • Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[R1].txt as well.
———-
Hi,

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the box below:

    ClearJavaCache::

    File::
    c:\docume~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\mfe_rr.sys

    Driver::
    MFE_RR

  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix may request an update; please allow it.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post the contents of the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
———-

AdwCleaner

  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Delete.
  • Confirm each time with Ok.
  • You will be prompted to restart your computer. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
———-

Post the ComboFix and AdwCleaner logs and let me know how your system is running. :)
Not sure but I may have screwed things up. After restart TeaTimer comes up and asks if I want to make changes. A couple actually changed values but most simply deleted a value. With my limited knowledge that "0" values are bad, I denied the changes. Logs are attached.
Disable Spybot S-D Tea Timer

TeaTimer needs to be disabled so that its protection does not interfere with fixes.

TeaTimer can be re-enabled once the computer is clean. :)

1. Open Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
2. If it is not already set to do this go to the "Mode" menu and select "Advanced Mode".
3. On the left hand side, click on "Tools".
4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List.
5. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
6. Restart your computer.

Now run the instructions for ComboFix again from post 4. Post the new log that is created.
Ran it all again and attached logs but think Spybot/TeaTimer may be screwing things up. Spybot would freeze before finishing a scan so I couldn't open it to change TeaTimer settings and turn off the autorun on reboot. So, I deleted it. Now TeaTimer appears on reboot but doesn't appear to run. However, now I have a Spybot folder in Program Files with a TeaTimer Systems settings protector icon that I can't delete. I'll try to download Spybot and see if that allows me to access the settings. Sorry, really not trying to be a pain.
I uninstalled Spybot using its uninstall program because I couldn't access the the Tools screen. Spybot was set to run a scan when the program was opened and it would freeze near the very end of the scan at "Zoom Player," I think it was. It left me with the protected settings. I have downloaded Spybot again and changed the settings but still have the locked file in my Program Files folder.
  • Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Right-click and Run as Administrator on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt.
Note:These logs can be located in the OTL. folder on you C:\ drive if they fail to open automatically.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them both in.

Before your reply I used Spybot Shredder to delete the TeaTimer file. Ironic but I think it worked. Ran Combofix and Adware again and have attached logs. Following your reply I followed instructions for OTL. While I want to get rid of all viruses and malware, I have been paranoid about any transactions online. Obviously that is making holiday shopping a pain. Can you tell if I have reason, as it now stands, to avoid any online purchases? Thank you for all your help.

Please download and run ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT). This program allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed. The standard registry backup options that come with Windows back up most of the registry but not all of it. ERUNT however creates a complete backup set, including the Security hive and user related sections. ERUNT is easy to use and since it creates a full backup, there are no options or choices other than to select the location of the backup files. The backup set includes a small executable that will launch the registry restore if needed. **Remember if you are using Windows Vista as your operating system right-click the executable and Run as Administrator.
