I can only launch the tool in safe mode.

When launching in safe mode there is no "Include All Files" option.

These are the options listed that I can select

Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center/Action Center
Windows Update
Windows Defender
Other Services

Let me know which options I should select from this list and I will then run the tool.

I downloaded both registry files. In safe mode I double clicked on both of them and allowed them to merge the registry. I rebooted into normal mode Something is is now different. I noticed immediately when the computer rebooted that it made the normal windows reboot sound at the end which has not happened since we started working on the computer. I can now for for the first time remove and replace the USB stick and have it be recognized by the computer as being in or out. It is almost like the interrupts were turned back on. The other symptoms remain though. Still won't connect to internet and still get "The specified device" error. But to repeat, what ever changes were made in the registry have made a small difference!
Small progress is still progress!!

Let's try running another tool we haven't tried yet. Go ahead and run in safe mode if necessary.

  • Download RogueKiller and save it on your desktop.

NOTE: If using IE8 or better Smartscreen Filter will need to be disabled
  • Quit all programs
  • Start RogueKiller.exe.
  • Wait until Prescan has finished …
  • Click on Scan
[external image: Posted Image]

  • Wait for the end of the scan.
  • The report has been created on the desktop.
  • Click on the Delete button.
[external image: Posted Image]
  • The report has been created on the desktop.

  • Next click on the ShortcutsFix
    [external image: Posted Image]
  • The report has been created on the desktop.

Please post: All RKreport.txt text files located on your desktop.

Then I'd like to get another fresh Farbar Service Scanner log. Since you'll be running in safe mode go ahead and check all the boxes available to you again. Let's see what changes show after this.
ok here are the two Rogue Killer reports and the FSS log file.
