Malware editorial investigator Brian Krebs posts information he has stumbled upon which strongly indicates that noted Chinese hacker, Tan Dailin, aka witheredrose, aka wickedrose, has opened for business with a new antivirus utility named Anvisoft Smart Defender.
Is this a threat? Maybe. But only if you download and install it.
Is it a Big threat? No. Just another hazard that has been allowed because people are allowed to post while hiding their identiy.
To me this kind of development is simply another example of the dangerous garbage that floods, and spams, and drives-by the Internet which we all share.
It harks that users should always investigate the safety and provinence of items they download, especially .exe application and setup files.
Is this guy now Legit? Or is he still up to old tricks with possible embedded apps and trojans in his supposed antivirus?
Who knows? It is certainly above my skill set to research and confirm.
But I won't be using or recommending this "product" any time soon.
