Hi guys,

The other day i restarted my computer and the SoundMax icon in the task bar was crossed out. When i hovered the cursor over it, a message popped up saying;
"No SoundMax audio present
You cannot use SoundMax control panel"

I tried to download the latest drivers for it and it got most of the way through the intallation but it then cut out and an error message came up and read;

"Severe

Driver not found! Reboot system, and run this setup again,"

However, upon rebooting and trying again, i get the same darn message.

can anyone help?
cheers
Something has obviously upset it for it to do that, the biggest question to ask is what had you done just prior to this happening ? Just wondering if you installed (or uninstalled) something that could have caused this, I guess the simplest option is to see if system restore will get it back for you. Click on Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Restore, select a date when the sound was working, then proceed with the restore, make sure you do NOT turn off the system (if laptop plug into mains) or turn it off while it does this, or it could mess things up, once it's done and finished rebooting you will get a message saying if it was successful or not, and says you can undo it if needed, just close such messages and see if it worked, if not we need to know more info about the system, but lets see if this helps to start with.
Well it depends when you last recall it working, it certainly won't hurt to go a bit further, maybe a week or so, assuming this went wrong in the last few days, so give it a go, if that still doesn't work then we need more specific info on your system to help get the correct driver for you, if it's a store bought system give us the details, or run a scan at the Pit, and post the link back here, you will need to sign up, but it's free, or the results won't be saved, then we can see what your working with, also say what protection your running (anti virus etc), just wondering if that blocked your attempt to install the driver you tried.
Right, i did another system restore and it did't resolve it so as you said i did the pc pitstop thing and its all installed and done its scanning , now how do i get it on here?
You simply copy and paste the URL of the results page here, but if you haven't made an account there it won't save, once that's done we can see more of what your working with, and don't forget to say what protection your using.
Right, looks like it's well overdue for a bit of TLC lol, but lets see what we can do, first off go and download the Audio driver from Here, going by the Pit's scan, thats your motherboard, so maybe this driver would be better suited than what you have, click on the Tech Support tab, and look down the list for "760GXK8MC audio driver . 5280 3.30MB 8/20/2007" and save it to your desktop for ease of finding.

Now go into your Device Manager, and expand the Audio section, go down the list one at a time, and right click on ALL Audio entries, and select uninstall, also check the box to remove the driver as well, repeat for each Audio entry there, you may well have some entries that will not have an uninstall option, that's fine, leave it and go to the next one, once complete close the Device Manager, run any\all junk file cleaners you may have to clear out some junk, next right click on the anti virus icon by the clock, and select Pause (or any similar option), this will stop your anti virus, so do not go to any web pages until you have rebooted.

Now with the anti virus stopped, try and install the new driver, with luck all will go fine, so fingers crossed, once rebooted (if not prompted then do it anyway) you can go to web pages again, and you can let us know how it went, hope it's good news.

*edit
Forgot the link lol
Right as i went into the setup it gave me the choice to reinstall/upgrade or to remove completely i went for the reinstall and shortly thereafter a notifacation appeared and read "The audio driver files do not support your computer hardware" and thenn suggested i re-boot and try again, i did that but alas no joy whats the next move cheif?
Well that's the driver put forward by the motherboard makers, so it should work, the fact you got the options you did when running it, that suggests the software was still installed, run it again and select Remove Completely, reboot and let windows try to auto install it, as it will pick it up as new hardware found when you reboot, see if that gives anymore luck.
There is one other Audio driver there, try that one, same place\link, only this time look down the list for "760GXK8MC AMD onboard AUDIO drivers for 32bit. 5.12.1.5410 25.3MB 8/19/2005" hopefully that one will work.
That's not good then, I don't understand why they aren't working, logically one of them should, as that is supposed to be your motherboard, lets see if This can help sort things, it's an m$ guide on sound devices, and if you follow each page there is a Fixit which may help, see if you get better luck there, should it still not help, if you can say if it's onboard sound, or a soundcard your using, it would help to know as it could guide to a different driver site, lets hope something helps.
well theres a new developent, the software that weve been trying to find the drivers for appears to have disapeared since im gettung weary of trying to sort it out would replacing the sound card solve/bypass the problem?
