I mean to get the laptop to get widows updates regularly. At the moment it does not. Because like my laptop that you helped me to fix it does not connect to microsoft…
There are scans that can be run to see what is happening on your computer without making changes to it.

Let's run a scan that may show up the update problem.

Run Farbar Service Scanner

Please download Farbar Service Scanner and run it on the computer with the issue.
  • make sure the following options are checked:

    Internet Services
    Windows Firewallsfc
    System Restore
    Security Center
    Windows Update

  • press "Scan".
  • it will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • please copy and paste the log to your reply.

There doesn’t appear to be a problem with Windows updates according to that.

Let’s try another scan that won’t change any settings but might show up a problem.

Run DDS

Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.

DDS.pif
DDS.com

  • disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
  • double click DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run)
  • when done, DDS.txt will open.
  • after a few moments, attach.txt will open in a second window.
  • save both reports to your desktop.
  • Post the contents of the DDS.txt and Attach.txt reports in your next reply

Good news about the updates.

There appears to be no malware on your computer but speaking of updates, these versions of Java below are very out-of-date and present a security risk. In fact the Java is so old that “Sun” have nothing to do with it any more. Uninstall these:

SUN-J2RE-1.6.0.17-R03-4910
SUN-JRE-1.4.2.07-R05-20

You can download the latest version from here:

====================================================

Windows Internet Explorer 8
Windows Internet Explorer 8

Go here to download Internet Explorer 9.

Apart from these issues, the only other things that are showing up are Network-related so it might be worth showing the error messages to your IT department .

I don’t see anything that would suggest a format/re-image being necessary but that is up to your employers. The fact that Windows updated means that it was not a malware issue because we have made no changes. ;)

Please let me know if I can close this as there are no more scans we can run without potentially affecting settings.
