Hello, Thankyou for your help in the past. I was away for the past week and so the topic was closed. I have a survey which pops up in a new tab sometimes. I don't think it's to do with my pop-up settings but then again I'm not too great at picking up on what's legitimate and what's rubbish. I use windows7 and have a few programs downloaded from the last time I received help from this forum; 'Hijack this' and 'Avast Free'. Regards, natalie

To make cleaning this machine easier

Please do not uninstall/install any programs unless asked to
It is more difficult when files/programs are appearing in/disappearing from the logs.
Please do not run any scans other than those requested
Please follow all instructions in the order posted
All logs/reports, etc.. must be posted in Notepad. Please ensure that word wrap is unchecked. In notepad click format, uncheck word wrap if it is checked.
Do not attach any logs/reports, etc.. unless specifically requested to do so.
If you have problems with or do not understand the instructions, Please ask before continuing.
Please stay with this thread until given the All Clear. A absence of symptoms does not mean a clean machine.

Download OTL to your desktop.

Double click on OTL.exe to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output
Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
In the window under Custom Scans/Fixes copy and paste the following

Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.

Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them all in.

Download aswMBR.exe to your desktop.

Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it. If asked to download Avast's database please do so.

Click the "Scan" button to start scan

On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply

There shall also be a file on your desktop named MBR.dat. Right click that file and select Send To>Compressed (zipped) folder. Please attach that zipped file in your next reply.

Hi nataliefontana,

Which browser(s) are you having problems with? What are the surveys for and are there any particular websites they happen on?

Did you intensionally install Ask toolbar or did it just appear?

Please download AdwCleaner from here and save it to your desktop.

Right click on AdwCleaner.exe and click "Run as Administrator" to run the tool.
Click on Search.

A logfile will automatically open after the scan has finished.

Please post the content of that logfile in your reply.

You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[Rn].txt as well - (n is the scan number.)

Hi, The browser I use is firefox 15.0.1. I Didn't put the ask toolbar on. There's also a facebook icon there I didn't put on. Unfortunately those survey popups appear when I go to safe websites.. They have popped up in a new tab when I go to bigpond, ebay, this site and a few others which I can't remember right now. I find this very confusing and I'm wondering if they could be legitimate but I have ticked the "block popups" box under my browser options. Some websites do have surveys which are legitamate. Do you recall what they were for?

I see both Avast and Norton Internet Security installed. 2 antivirus programs installed at the same time is not advisable as they will conflict and lead to problems. Is the Noton subscription still valid?

Let's clean up some adware and see how it goes.

Clic Start > Control Panel. Under Programs click uninstall a program and uninstall

Run AdwCleaner and select Delete
Once done it will ask to reboot, allow the reboot

hello, I uninstalled ask toolbar and ask toolbar updater but I can't uninstall yontoo. I get a box which says 'setup initialization error' with 'Tarma® Installer' written at the top near the X. From Nat

Hello, I've gone to a few regular websites and there have been no popups which, is great. Unfortunately when I got to whatthetech a very loud popup opened up a new tab and announced I had been chosen to complete a survey. I'm not sure if this is legitimate. Thanks, Natalie
