I have run AVG and it cannot get rid of this virus. If I connect the computer in anyway to internet I get a warning and my video pops up telling me to send money to the feds. Obvious BS!!

The computer is a Toshiba Satellite?? has a vision AMD and windows 7 on it. Outside of that I dont know much because it is a friends computer and I have been running macs for a long time now and forgot how to do anything with MS computers.

Thanks for the help.

Please note, to save time I am following the tips from this page:
http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?sh…=generic28.BVLH

Files are placed below and I have run ComboFix as Catbite suggested in the aforementioned thread, but I have not made any adjustments or done work to the computer outside of what you see here. I HAVE NOT done anything to the system restore, however, as you know CF does!

P.S. How is L.D.Tate doing? Is he still around? Have not chatted with him in years.

PERHAPS I HAVE HELPED SAVE TIME AND NOT CAUSED A LARGER PROBLEM. I WILL MENTION THAT AVG IS NO LONGER WORKING AND I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I TRIED TO TURN IT BACK ON AND I CANNOT. ALSO AS MENTIONED BEFORE, THIS MACHINE IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE NET. Sorry for caps but I wanted to distinguish further important information from me.

Thanks again.

P.S.S. There is a new issue since running ComboFix:
E:\G-March Portfolio.pdf
Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion.

I get this box for many different things, one is on AVG, another on a pdf on a thumb drive etc. Seems random, but I know the pdf file is good. I did have the thumb drive in the machine when I ran combofix, so I can only guess that is the reason. As I know CF will work to rid many different things and some things need to be kept I have not done anything like delete. Thus what is legitimate should still be salvageable.
Hi and Welcome!! :) My name is Jeff. I would be more than happy to take a look at your malware results logs and help you with solving any malware problems you might have. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and know that I am working hard to get you a clean and functional system back in your hands. I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • If you happen to have a flash drive/thumb drive please have that ready in the event that we need to use it.
IMPORTANT NOTE : Please do not delete, download or install anything unless instructed to do so.
DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix or HijackThis fixes without supervision. Doing so could make your system inoperable and could require a full reinstall of your Operating System and losing all your programs and data.

Having said that….Let's get going!!
———-

Go ahead and reboot your system once or twice and that will clear up the problem you are having with the "registry key marked for deletion". :)
———-

Please download aswMBR to your desktop.

  • Double click the aswMBR icon to run it.
  • Click the Scan button to start scan.
  • If you are asked to update the Avast Virus database please allow it to do so.
  • When it finishes, press the save log button, save the logfile to your desktop and post its contents in your next reply.
