Hi Satchfan, I tried both methods. No DVD in there and also did the battery and power button tactic. Unfortunately nothing. Anything else to try before I wait for the Win 7 CD? Thanks a lot.
Hi Satchfan, I get the following options, and will put in parenthesis if I have tried them and what happened. Repair Your Computer (just brings into startup repair, so does not work, I tried). Safe Mode (does not work, tries to load, freezes when it gets to loading the file Windows\System32\DRIVERS\CLASSPNP.SYS and then eventually reboots) Safe Mode with Networking (same) Safe Mode With Command Prompt (same) Enable Boot Logging (havent tried) Enable Low Resolution Video (640 x 680) (havent tried) Last Known Good Configuration (tried, does not work…reboots) Directory Services Restore Mode (havent tried) Debugging Mode (havent tried) Disable Automatic Restart on System Failure (does not work…reboots) Disable Driver Signature Enforcement (havent tried) Start Windows Normally Thanks.
I take it you don't have a Windows Recovery disk either

Choose Disable Driver Signature Enforcement which will allow all drivers to start even without valid signatures.

Then try booting in both safe and normal mode.

I have to go out now so will not be replying for some time.

Hi Satchfan, Unfortunately this option has not worked either. I think I just have to wait for the WIn 7 CD to come, and I may just have to reformat too if System Recovery from the Win 7 CD doesnt work. Unless you have any other options? Thanks! And sorry for the late reply. I am back to work now and can only respond in the evenings.
Thanks for the new information. We'll try with the disk when you get it but meanwhile I'll ask some colleagues if they have any ideas. Don't worry about evenings as long as you keep me posted about the delay in replies. Satchfan
Please forgive my late reply skall. I've had a bit of a personal family issue to deal with unexpectedly I will respond as quickly as I can.
Hi skall

Sorry for the delay. Everything is all good now thanks.

Please make sure there are no usb cables connected to your computer.

I’m assuming that your computer is set to boot first from the CD/DVD Drive: if it isn’t and you don’t know how to change it let me know.

Insert the Windows full version installation DVD
  • when it says Press any key to boot from CD or DVD do exactly that
  • at the “Select Language” screen, do so then click Next
  • at the next screen click Repair your Computer
  • at the System Recovery Options dialog box click Command Prompt
  • in the command window that opens either copy/paste or type this command below and then press Enter. NOTE where the spaces are – they are important.

    sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows

  • you will get a blinking curser while it checks and attempts to repair any issues it may find, which could take quite a long time to complete.
Windows will now try to find and repair any corrupted system files. If the scan finds errors, it’s recommend to run the scan again until it finds no errors.

To restart your computer and run the scan again, exit the command and click Restart. To try to boot into Windows after repairing damaged files from the scan, remove the installation disc and restart your PC.

Hi Satchfan, Glad to hear everything is going fine now for you. I just tried with the CD, but I see no option for System Repair, even after going through the step of the language preference. Then it just asks me which partition I want to install it on. Is there something I am missing? Thanks.
Hi Satchfan, In the tutorial, the screenshots do not look exactly the same as was mine, but I did manage to get to Step 6, and then went into the command prompt and typed in the code, and this is what I got: "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service." Is it because HP has their own recovery? I have an HP-G62 laptop. But in their recovery there is no option for repair, it is pretty much Restore System to Restore it to the out of the box state. Please advise. Thanks
