Hi, and welcome to our malware removal forum!

My name is Richard and I'll be happy to help you with your computer problems.

Please be advised that I am currently in training, so my responses will need to be approved by one of our experts before I post them. This is only to ensure you are receiving accurate instructions. It may cause a delay in my replies.

Please note the following:
  • The cleaning process is not instant as logs can take time to research. Sit tight and please be patient.
  • I will be working on your malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you may have with your system.
  • While we are fixing your problems, do NOT install/re-install any programs or run any fixes or scanners unless told to do so.
  • Ensure that your anti-virus definitions are up-to-date.
  • I would advise backing up all your important documents, personal data files and photos to a CD or DVD drive.
  • Do not back up any Applications (programs). These should be re-installed from the original source CD(s) or website(s).
  • During the course of our cleanup, please do not do any additional online work or surfing until we have verified that your system is clean.
  • I suggest printing out each set of instructions and reading the entire post before proceeding. It will make following them easier.
  • Be sure to follow the directions and run tools/scans in the order listed.
  • If you do not reply to your topic, it will be closed after 3 days.
I will return as soon as possible with more instructions.

Regards,

Richard :wavey:
Thanks for the information

P2P Programs Warning!

IMPORTANT
I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Person to Person) File Sharing Programs on your computer.
  • Shareaza version 2.2.1.0

I would recommend that you go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the P2P programs listed above, however that choice is up to you.
Note: you must NOT use any P2P whilst we are cleaning your machine.

Hi Richard After removing programs whilst in safe mode yesterday, the laptop seem to be okay last night, I was even able to update my antivirus program. However, tonight when I turned it on to complete your next set of instructions, it would not load properly and the trackpad was once again not working. I restarted it in safe mode and downloaded and ran the defogger program. Once it restarted the following message appeared: DAEMON Tools Lite This program requires at least Windows 2000 with SPTD 1.51 or higher. Kernel debugger must be deactivated. Attached is the latest GMER log. Thanks Eejit

Hi,

I will be assisting while TechieRanger is away,

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
Just to let you know that my laptop would not boot up, it just had a black screen with cursor. Had to remove battery to get it to turn off. Am now trying to reboot it in safe mode. Eejit
Was eventually able to load windows properly and download combofix. However. The program seem to be taking way too long (over a hour) when it came to deleting the folder 'A LOT' and I eventually turned my laptop off which I have a feeling I shouldn't have done. Should I run combofix again?
Please delete the copy of ComboFix that you have on your desktop and download a fresh copy, but rename if to svchost.exe before saving it to your desktop

now boot into safe mode and run it:

To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY repeatedly,
  • this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
  • go into your usual account
I carried out your instructions, but the program has once again stalled at deleting folders; …../WINDOWS. (The program has been running for a hour). What should I do? Will I shut down the laptop again? Any advice would be appreciated.
leave it to run for at least another 30 minutes or so,

if it still doesn't complete then run the following:

Download OTL to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Select All Users
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in
    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    explorer.exe
    winlogon.exe
    Userinit.exe
    svchost.exe
    services.exe
    /md5stop
    %systemroot%\*. /rp /s
    DRIVES
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
  • Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Post both logs
