Laptop ran sluggish a couple days, late at night Monday did a weekly Windows Update/shutdown (or maybe the virus faked me out), BSOD and restart loop upon turing it back on. It's a ~3 yr old Dell Studio 1555 with Win 7. A full McAfee scan didn't pick anything up (my original sub from purchase ran out a month ago sadly) - MBAM did find Trojan.Agent 2 instances, one in svchost.exe. Here is the DDS log to start, ready with other tools when needed for logs…thanks in advance :thumbup: (**This is run in Safe Mode with Networking - the computer BSOD and restarts soon after booting into Windows if in Normal Mode**) —————————————- . Hi and Welcome!! :) My name is Jeff. I would be more than happy to take a look at your malware results logs and help you with solving any malware problems you might have. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and know that I am working hard to get you a clean and functional system back in your hands. I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

IMPORTANT NOTE : Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.
DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix or HijackThis fixes without supervision.
Doing so could make your system inoperable and could require a full reinstall of your OS losing all your programs and data.

Well, that rootkit did not like being found out…took several tries to get the scan to complete. First time, it shut off the computer soon as it started, twice after it shut it down in middle of scanning Windows/System32. Then for a couple tries it blue screened before I even got into Windows. Finally got back into Safe Mode, then the scan completed all the way. ———————————————- aswMBR version 0.9.9.1665 Copyright© 2011 AVAST Software Run date: 2012-04-17 21:45:48 —————————– 21:45:48.695 OS Version: Windows x64 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 21:45:48.695 Number of processors: 2 586 0x170A 21:45:48.695 ComputerName: LAPTOPDELL UserName: Greta 21:45:53.047 Initialize success 21:45:59.599 AVAST engine defs: 12041701 21:46:08.117 Disk 0 (boot) \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 -> \Device\Ide\IdeDeviceP0T0L0-0 21:46:08.117 Disk 0 Vendor: ST9500420ASG 0003SDM1 Size: 476940MB BusType: 11 21:46:08.132 Device \Driver\atapi -> MajorFunction fffffa80050215c4 21:46:08.148 Disk 0 MBR read successfully 21:46:08.148 Disk 0 MBR scan 21:46:08.163 Disk 0 MBR:Alureon-M [Rtk] 21:46:08.163 Disk 0 TDL4@MBR code has been found 21:46:08.163 Disk 0 MBR hidden 21:46:08.195 Disk 0 Partition 1 00 DE Dell Utility Dell 8.0 39 MB offset 63 21:46:08.226 Disk 0 Partition 2 80 (A) 07 HPFS/NTFS NTFS 15000 MB offset 80325 21:46:08.241 Disk 0 Partition 3 00 07 HPFS/NTFS NTFS 461899 MB offset 30800325 21:46:08.257 Disk 0 MBR [TDL4] **ROOTKIT** 21:46:08.273 Disk 0 trace - called modules: 21:46:08.273 ntoskrnl.exe CLASSPNP.SYS disk.sys >>UNKNOWN [0xfffffa80050215c4]<< 21:46:08.288 1 nt!IofCallDriver -> \Device\Harddisk0\DR0[0xfffffa8004801060] 21:46:08.304 3 CLASSPNP.SYS[fffff8800160143f] -> nt!IofCallDriver -> \Device\Ide\IdeDeviceP0T0L0-0[0xfffffa80046721f0] 21:46:08.319 \Driver\atapi[0xfffffa8004f8c590] -> IRP_MJ_CREATE -> 0xfffffa80050215c4 21:46:13.608 AVAST engine scan C:\Windows 21:46:23.046 AVAST engine scan C:\Windows\system32 21:51:00.524 AVAST engine scan C:\Windows\system32\drivers 21:51:19.119 AVAST engine scan C:\Users\Greta 23:17:57.646 AVAST engine scan C:\ProgramData 23:40:56.506 Scan finished successfully 00:10:49.588 Disk 0 MBR has been saved successfully to "C:\Users\Greta\Desktop\MBR.dat" 00:10:49.604 The log file has been saved successfully to "C:\Users\Greta\Desktop\aswMBR.txt"

Took several tries again but finally got the scan to complete and did the fix. Now able to be in Normal Mode Windows and haven't BSOD yet, but did notice a DLL error in booting in though (C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\Microsoft\dpvdx.dll). When I was done with everything, I shut it down and Windows Update suddenly applied 8 updates, then when booting up it did the whole "Applying update operation" for a bit…everything still seems okay though. The original crashing set off during a Windows Update so hopefully it was just finally completing now. Hi,

Let's keep going.

Download Combofix from either of the links below, and save it to your desktop.
Link 1
Link 2

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

——————————————————————–

IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

——————————————————————–

Right-Click and Run as Administrator on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt for further review.

Okay, ran ComboFix…it kept giving me an error "cannot find NIRKMD" that I had to click through multiple times. Read this might have to do with McAfee, but I had went in and turned off each module plus ended the McAfee processes in Task Mgr so am fairly sure it was really off. Things still seem to be running okay in Normal mode so far. ———————————————————————————— ComboFix 12-04-19.01 - Greta 04/19/2012 15:33:28.1.2 - x64 Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 6.1.7601.1.1252.1.1033.18.4061.2987 [GMT -5:00] Running from: c:\users\[removed]\Desktop\ComboFix.exe AV: McAfee Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware *Disabled/Updated* {86355677-4064-3EA7-ABB3-1B136EB04637} FW: McAfee Firewall *Disabled* {BE0ED752-0A0B-3FFF-80EC-B2269063014C} SP: McAfee Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware *Disabled/Updated* {3D54B793-665E-3129-9103-206115370C8A} SP: Windows Defender *Disabled/Updated* {D68DDC3A-831F-4fae-9E44-DA132C1ACF46} . . Hi,

I need some information on some unidentified files. We will use Virustotal Please submit these files for analysis

To submit a file to virustotal, please click VirusTotal

copy and paste the following into the upload a file box (one at a time if more than one file is listed)

c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Microsoft\dpvdx.dll

scroll down a bit and click "send file", wait for the results and post them in your next reply.

Please note that sometimes the scans take a few minutes. Please ensure that the scan has completed and the results are complete before submitting the next sample. Also please make sure each result is clearly identified as to which sample they belong to.

Hi,
  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:
    ClearJavaCache::

    RegLock::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\Common\Smart Tag\Actions\{B7EFF951-E52F-45CC-9EF7-57124F2177CC}]

  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
