Hi Have removed a rootkit virus from my laptop. windows updates seem to been deleted now the virus removal process and now when I try to update them, it downloads and updates them, but a few minutes after doing this says that they need to download and update again…not sure why this is happening??? Also windows firewall gives an error message when I press the turn on or off option…please help!
Did you remove the rootkit on your own or were you following directions from a forum? If the latter, can you provide a link please.

See if that helps.

Not sure what this tells me???
It looks like you have 3 missing or corrupted registry keys, BFE, MpsSvc and WscSvc. The last one is the same one missing in the link I gave you. Lets go with the same process and see if it fixes your problem as well.

First, backup your existing registry. Either create a new System Restore Point or install and run ERUNT. See here: ERUNT - How to backup and restore the registry, Windows Made Easy - XP, Vista, Windows 7

Once that's done, download the following zip file. It contains three .reg files of the keys you are missing, so you need to extract them first, then double click on each in turn to merge into the registry.

📎RegistryExports.zip

Reboot then follow Essexboy's directions further down in the same thread: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/31455…ost__p__2126230
Hi there, have been through the process described, but Windows is still downloading the updates and then still tries to download them…what sure I do next?
