Hi webster10,

Let's see if windows can reinstall then for you. In Device Manger right click on Sony CD-RW CRX230EE and click uninstall. Reboot the computer.

Check in task manger to see if the ! is now gone . Do the same for the other CD rom.

Let me know how you make out.
Hi Probably not so good. I need to test a university test, so I had to download the browser for the test - QuestionMark. It is a high security browser and locks out everything while it is running. After I launched the browser, I had to quit before I started the test. But there was no way out. So I turned off the machine. Unfortunately, it had locked out my internet access, and even shut my task manager down. After loading in safe mode, I was finally able to get it to start in regular mode. Running MBAM found nothing, but Super-antispyware found the lock out on the taskmanager, and I got that restored. I can probably run an OTL scan, copy to disk, and post from this computer. I apologize. This is legit software. It hit a glitch, and really fouled things up. Me.
Hi webster10, No problem, we'll see what we can do. Don't try too may things yet to remove it. Please confirm that it is Perception Secure Browser . I found something about alt-F4 for exiting the browser. Not sure if that also undoes it's security features. Once you confirm that is the browser we can try to find a way to undo it.
HI It is perception secure browser, or at least by the same company. The name of this application is Questionmark Secure Player. I have the computer running enough that I am currenting copying document files to a flash drive, and then program files, so I can do a wipe in necessary.
Hi Yes, I did uninstall QM, and that was a bloody mistake. I should have relaunched it instead so it could go through it's cycle and unlock all the security lockdowns it had made. Since it locks out internet connection and the ONLY way to install QM is via a download, without the program one is pretty well locked in (or out as the case may be). THANKS
Hi webster10,

We removed the major infections on April 12. We sorted out the video and sound problem on April 20. The video and sound we can easily fix again if need be. Windows is always creating System Restore points. I'm not sure if it will work but see if you can find a restore point somewhere between April 20 and the day you installed QuestionMark. Any fixes we did after April 20 are minor and easily redone. Do not go any earlier than April 13. As I said the best would be April 20 to as close as possible to the day you installed QuestionMark which was April 24 or 25.

There are very good instructions on how to restore to an earlier state HERE

One the page that opens click the blue text
"Click here to view or hide step-by-step instructions with pictures "

To give you step by step instructions.

Let me know how you make out.
Hi Tried that already. QM disables system restore. It is so high security, it is worse than lots of malaware. If some one has a QM problem, whatever they do , not not delete QM until the system is fully up and running. Me.
Hi webster10, What message do you get when you try to access System Restore. Seems pretty irresponsible of the software to completely disable it. If it's an access denied message we may be able to get it back.
