Hi webster10,

We still have a bit to do but let's see if we can get some of these issues cleared up.

How is your display? Beside Internet Explorer does the display look right?

Try this first
  • right click your desktop, click properties
  • click the settings tab
  • use the slider to change to a higher resolution
  • click apply
You will have about 15 seconds to see if you like it. If you like it click yes. Does IE display correctly?

Is there anything in task manager that has a ? or ! mark ?
Hi Using Firefox, not IE. Already changed resolution when you suggested it earlier. No flags in task manager, but there were in something I ran and posted before. Mostly, everything is good. At least today. Trend Micro is still off. Thank you.

Hi webster10, That was the report from before we replaced the missing files? See if you can resize the browser window. Try clicking on the icon between the - and the x in the top right corner. FireFox should now be smaller. Click on the left edge and see if you can drag it to the left. If you can does the rest of FireFox display correctly?
Hello, No, that is a new report from the Device Manager of missing items. Like no sound. I did the reduce and move but to no effect. I moved it as far right as possible, still had blank space on the right, and when maximized it was just like before. The alignment of the projection onto the the screen is shifted left. THANKS me PS - I have to remember that I am webster10. When I signed up this site was still Tom Coyote.
Hi There is a file named Thumbs.db on my desktop. I went to move it to the recycle bin, and windows said it is a systems file. That seems out of place.
Hi webster10, Don't worry about the thumb.db file. That file is normally hidden, we'll rehide it shortly. Please open device manage and tell me the exact name of the device and the heading it is under that has a yellow ! mark or ? beside it.
Hi webster10,

Open device Manager
  • locte SoundMax Intergrated Digital Audio
  • right click on it and click properties
  • click unninstall
Reboot the computer. Windows shoild find the device and install it for you, if asked for a disk point the Wizard to C:\Compaq\AUDIO

Do the same for Intel 82865 Graphics Controller. This time if asked for a disk point it to C:\Compaq\VIDEO

Check task manager after each reboot to see if the ! is gone from the device. You cd/dvd player also may be now recognized.

Let me know how you make out.
Hi That restored the sound and fixed the screen alignment problem. I think that we are good to go. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
Hi webster10,

Good. Anything left in Device Manager with a ! mark?

I need you to create a batch file.

Open a new Notepad session
  • Click the Start button, click run
  • in the run box type notepad
  • click ok
  • In the notepad, Click "Format" and be certain that Word Wrap is not checked.
  • Copy and paste all the text in the code box below into the Notepad.

SED -r ":a; $!N;s/\n.*\t.*/\t/;ta;P;D" |(

Start Notepad net.txt

In the notepad
  • Click File, Save as…, and set the Save in to your Desktop

  • Click save

You will have a new file on your desktop called myfix.bat with an icon that looks like this 📎bat.jpg

Double click net.bat to run it. A notepad named net.txt will open, please post it's contents.
